Can £72m buy political power? Two donors have given Reform UK more than all the main parties spent during the 2024 general election. Should any two individuals have that much influence over British politics? Stephen McNair reports.

We tested people living near a chemical plant in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire. 70% of people tested had levels of PFAS in their blood that, in the US, would be classed as 'high-risk' for adverse health effects. 1 person had the highest levels of PFAS ever recorded in anyone's blood in the UK.

Yes you're right. ✅Our research shows that leading by example on climate change increases trust, credibility and popularity of leaders. ✅It also increases other's willingness to change ⛔Unnecessary high-carbon behaviour undermines all those things.

Every child is born needing the same things: air, water, land, and people willing to keep them safe. None of it is earned, it's owed just by existing. Somewhere along the way, air stayed free, but land got fenced off, and safety became conditional, and even then, only certain work gets rewarded.

What a fucking deranged thing to write @healthbeat.org / @chalkbeat.org. Students with disabilities struggle to access the legally mandated ACESSILE EDUCATION they are entitled to under federal disability civil rights law but that NYC fucking refuses to provide.
Chronic absenteeism skyrocketed to 40%, the highest level in decades, during the COVID pandemic when students returned full-time to their classrooms during the 2021-22 school year. And though the rates have decreased since then, the latest figure — 33.5% — released Thursday in the Mayor’s Management Report (a compendium of performance data from city agencies), reveals how challenging it is for schools to move the needle. The hurdles are highest for the neediest students, particularly those who are homeless. Students with disabilities also struggle with attendance, often exacerbated by busing-related issues.

I’ll be in my 80s, kids will in their 40s, theirs teenagers. Who in the right minds would not be slamming the breaks on global material consumption, to repair, reuse, tax end billionaires and deploy humanity to landscape scale environmental restoration. Political leadership, corrupted by wealth.
Matthew Todd, quoting the very excellent Professor Bill McGuire

"Fascinating watching the establishment freaking out about AI, which they probably should be, yet simultaneously ignoring decades of mainstream climate scientists telling us human civilisation may be heading towards total permanent collapse with mass death across the planet."

Screen shot reading:

“Prof. Bill McGuire: the IPCC’s estimate of 2.7 by 2100 is “bollocks” a cataclysmic 3°C by 2050 is now possible”
