Generating images with BigGAN and... yeah, we've progressed a lot since 2019.

Picture generated with the BigGAN model. Baby in a bathtub, with eggshell white tiles and some kind of foam in the tub. The baby's facial features are weird, with rendering artifacts that make its appearance uncanny. The baby's right arm is blurry and mixes with the white foamish water.

this is only stuff you can do on open models not just open weights, but fully open models with open datasets this stuff is extremely important, and we know next to nothing about it

Matlin and Chakraborty designed a study » around inf'yence functions, a technique that estimates how much any single training document - an article, post, or page a model trained on - shaped how the model answered a particular benchmark question.
Add those estimates up across the data, and you can see which kinds of writing - literary, technical, and so on - support a given ability in the model. But that holds only if you can confirm the model actually trained on the documents in question.

I'm looking into datasets of building footprints with heights, at least city-scale. Most of them claim to have height, but actually have only elevation. I've got a few (for France, Japan and Netherlands) but I'd love to get a more diverse coverage. Any ideas?

C'est symptomatique de l'impasse dans laquelle on s'enferme avec les LLM pour la recherche d'information. La carte existe déjà, il y a même une source d'autorité (l'IGN) qui l'a produite. Le LLM non seulement n'est pas capable d'identifier cette information, mais en plus en falsifie une nouvelle.

You can train your image-to-image flow matching model on badly aligned data, you just have to tell it how bad it is. 🫣 Great work from @lebellig.bsky.social and Aimi Okabayashi with cool applications to remote sensing. It's FlowEO 2.0!
