This is a thing I think about a lot, that your data (privacy, texts, DNA, voiceprint, image, all of it) are only as safe as your most credulous, least thoughtful contact makes them. Seems suboptimal!

Excellent episode. It made me think how Socrates proposes the selective breeding of humans in 'The Republic' bk. 5, 458e - 460c. www.platonicfoundation.org/translation/... He uses an analogy with breeding hunting dogs, which I have also seen in a Nazi propaganda film.

Grrrrr. I loathe Winnie-the-Pooh. The twee sentimentalisation of childhood by the English middle-class. A degenerate end of a great tradition of children's literature.

Call me a masochist, but I'm returning to this issue, as I feel it has been poorly understood. Please read the whole thread before responding. First, I hope we can agree that the Israeli government is committing genocide in Gaza and horrific crimes in the West Bank and the wider region.

It is really underappreciated to what degree the rogue agents discourse is about prefabricating an excuse for releasing predictably unreliable and unsafe products. We don't need "AI alignment", we need enforcement of consumer protection and felony hacking laws.

Why do police, regulators and politicians just accept this ? Isn't knowingly facilitating crimes an offence ? It mystifies me why such a common response is essentially, that's just the way it is & we can't do anything about it. What are they there for if not to deal with things like this ?

(To those elsewhere, Martin Lewis is a very well-known and trusted consumer champion in the UK.) It's unbelievable how they have got away with this for years. They are quite simply making money from enabling scams on a massive scale.

Versions of this have been a problem for years with Meta. I remember at the time of the Cambridge Analytica scandal (2018), Martin Lewis testifying to Parliament about how the then Facebook did nothing themselves to take down the hundreds of scams involving his stolen identity.
