When the first episode came out, I thought it was just an extreme "edgy" parody, making fun of toxic 40K fans. But lately I'm getting the sense that no, the creators mean that earnestly, because many of their fans do, and they seem to encourage it....

I’d argue Picard from TNG is a really strong example in that he isn’t infallible but is unrelentingly concerned with the moral costs of decisions and the power placed in his hands
