And that wasn't the only plan that would have had expressways all over the place in Toronto. I did a video last year covering not only the ones we built but the ones we didn't: youtu.be/PklfDLHxcWU

Maybe she should take a page out of the Gong Show book and put her candidate number on her signs.

Ranked ballots were legal in Ontario for municipal elections. Then Doug Ford made them illegal.

Windmill Lines
Surveyors’ lines, keys to evolution and development. Keys to harbour and shoreline historical evolution and development. Details of Site Location: There are four lines by this name, with each successive line placed further south than its predecessor. Some lines have additional or alternative names. And yet, despite being relatively quick to implement, it's taken 10 months since the opening of Line 6 for this to happen - and we're still waiting for it on Line 5, 8 months after opening. Grrrrrr.

As we continued extending the shoreline south by reclaiming land, new "windmill lines" kept being needed, each one farther south than the last.

This windmill became a landmark along the waterfront and was the namesake of the Windmill Line - a line from there to Fort Rouillé (on today's Exhibition grounds) marking the farthest south into the harbour that docks were allowed to extend.

It's an outrage! Somebody must do something! Seriously, yes, we need to bite the bullet, because the current situation is lousy and the way we're handling it, it seems to be getting worse faster than we are fixing it.

Does Sydney confusingly have both a Mayor and a Lord Mayor like London does (with very different jobs, and only one of them elected by the general public)?

In Toronto at least, it's a municipal by-law as to when signs can go up (25 days for local, from the day of the writ for provincial or federal) and must be removed (72 hours after polls close).

Turns out it's illegal to put up ejection signs before today. Haven't seen any Gong signs yet but I expect they'll soon be so plentiful that you can't sneeze anywhere in Toronto without hitting one.

If Bike Share Toronto wants one thing to get right first, for me it wouldn't be this. It would be fixing the distribution of bikes and empty docks so that you can actually rely on whichever of those you need being available where you need it, when you need it. Cuz they're not good at that.

Q107 is participating - in place of their morning show hosts they've been running the Indigenous stories just as they have done in previous years. (Dunno about during the day as I'm not listening right now.)

I received a piece of literature for the imcumbent trustee in my area. No idea why anyone would want the job when Dougie doesn't let them do it. (The only other literature so far is from the incumbent councillor.) As for signs, I haven't seen any signs for anything yet. Not even Gong!

How disappointing. I'll be seeing my councillor at a residents' association meeting in October and will press him on why almost nothing has been done. If any council/mayor candidates knock on my door I'll press them, too - though I doubt any of the actual mayoral candidates themselves will.

Yes, and it's not even close. Though to be fair most of the at-grade Line 5 I experience is around Leslie and just a couple of stops beyond Don Mills, not the section in Scarborough with eleventy intersections and stops.

Not Smooth Steve 🍁 @notsmoothsteve.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Small sample size: Top speed I saw was 55. Most of the time 35-40. Slowed to 25 for many intersections but not all. Station approach speed seems to be 25. We hit a lot of red lights. If this is what they call TSP I'd like some of whatever they're smoking.

Currently heading east along the whole line. Early in the trip, no better. I'm not expecting any different for the rest of the trip.

Based on a trip west from Jane to Humber College, the vehicles rarely approach traffic speed and when they do it's only brief. Most of the time I'd guess they're only doing 30-40 km/h tops (I'm not peering into the cab). Intersections and approach to stops are slow.

I am, though it's my first time since opening day last December so it's hard to compare with that. Compared with Line 5, though, I have only one word: slow.

I still wonder why the French announcements on Line 6 about which side's doors will open are phrased differently for left vs. right (left is present tense while right is future tense).
