Realizing people are unlikely to mistake my writing for LLMs —no matter how many times I reread drafts I usually miss a doubled word and often include phasing which works fine in spoken english but is awkward when read. I wonder if Pangram would agree

A reminder: Google will never call you. If someone says they are Google on the phone it is a scam. If you ever get a call from someone claiming to be from your bank, hangup and call the number on the back of your card. Incoming numbers and CallerID can be easily spoofed.

I used to create open source tools to scratch and itch and hoping someone else would find them useful. Now I create a new tools almost weekly, post them on GitHub and don’t care. It’s not my job to convince everyone they are missing out on useful shit.

Are you on linux or macOS? I used fs_usage to log all file descriptor activity during the processes life span — this identified the holding directory for the sentry agent. Previously it was one of the SDKs own state files. Deleting the directories in question was enough. Ask an agent for help.

Peter Tripp @notpeter.bsky.social · 27/07/2026
I’ve had this happen when the local state gets corrupted and when the sentry crash reporter get stuck processing a bad dump. Launching it from terminal gives verbose output which may give a hint where things are going wrong.

I’m calling it now. LLMs will cause cursive to return. How it’ll go: As we demand students show they’re not cheating with AI, hand-written tests and assignments will make a comeback. Because print is slower than cursive, we will start teaching it to kids again.

It's wild that in 2004 @daringfireball.bsky.social synthesized an ascii-based spec for annotating text and now I (and millions of others) use backticks when writing. Not just code but prose too. Every single day. At some level, I often think in Markdown. Yikes.

For the next decade (through StyleEdition 2024 today) rustfmt dutifully adds newlines, despite the compiler bug being long since fixed. Changing rustfmt formatting now requires some effort to minimize pain for rustfmt users. There's even an RFC: rust-lang.github.io/rfcs/2437-ru... 4/

To workaround this, prior to rustc being fixed, rustfmt added a newline to all formatted content. This had the benefit of (a) enforcing a trailing newline on formatted content (b) preventing the rustc panic on empty files. Zero byte files became 1 byte files with a newline.
120
Peter Tripp @notpeter.bsky.social · 27/03/2026
With some spelunking, I discovered the source of this behavior. Prior to Rust 1.3.0 (2015-09-17) the Rust Compiler would panic if it encountered an 0 byte rust source file, but as long as there was at least one byte (e.g. `\n`) it worked fine.
130
Peter Tripp @notpeter.bsky.social · 27/03/2026
Have you ever wondered why if you save an empty Rust file your editor might add a newline? I thought it was a @zed.dev bug, but turns out it's cause Zed by-default enables format_on_save and rust-analyzer. When rust-analyzer invokes rustfmt and that actually adds the newline. But why?

Am I supposed to use it to complain about where I work? Or the other companies in the same business park? Is NextDoor yet another social network where I’m expected to announce my new job so random people I met a decade ago can comment “Congratulations! 🎉 You deserve this!”
