Google owns Google sound search and Google owns YouTube so there's no reason why I shouldn't be able to open YouTube Music and see a playlist there of all the songs I've found with Google sound search, automatically. Why haven't they made it happen? Seems so obvious to me.

Every time I vote they ask me if I still live at the address on my ID. I assume they ask everyone that, including Ken Paxton.

Fortunately, my friend's kid was not at the camp that had kids swept away. But when we woke up that morning, all we knew was that there was a bad flood, some kids were missing, and it was an excruciating wait for the sheriff out there to call back and say her kid was safe.

Central Texas. The floods last year, thankfully we & her kid are all safe. But it was scary!

I keep remembering last July 3, how it was pouring rain that evening, and my friend and I were just glad to be at a bar with a roof over the patio, and her kid was safe at camp and it sure was strange to be getting so much rain in July, no clue what absolute horror we'd wake up to the next morning.

Three dozen hospitals have refused to take this baby? Even the Catholic hospitals? Why isn't John Seago naming and shaming them? They're so devout when it comes to refusing birth control and abortions, but when it's time to step up and care for a baby themselves, they're atheists.

"Texas Children’s officials... contacted medical facilities to ask about accepting Annelise, but 35 of the 36 have declined and the one pending hospital said it needed her to undergo brain death testing to consider transfer." Why aren't Catholic hospitals stepping up?

I just hope they find Cile Steward's body. I'm sure the families will all receive hefty settlements in court and maybe the camp's insurance will pay it or maybe they'll have to sell the place to pay it and eventually it will be either reopened or repurposed.
110
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
I'm not so sure that it will never reopen.

Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
I feel horrible for the families. They wanted answers and ultimately the only answer they'll ever get is: we have no idea why Dick waited so long to start evacuating and we'll never know.
030
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
They had nearly two hours to evacuate before the water started to rise and if they'd started evacuation even as late as 2:30, everyone would have made it. It's inexplicable why Dick waited until it was too late.

Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
Make a plan, designate evacuation routes, put up evacuation route maps in all the cabins, do an evacuation drill so campers know what to do, and everyone would be fine.
120
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
There was a written plan to evacuate in case of a fire, but apparently no plan to ever evacuate for a flood. If only they had planned to evacuate for a flood, they'd all be fine. Literally the only thing that camp needs to be safe is an evacuation plan in case of flood warnings. That's it.
130
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
I mean, for God's sake, 30 minutes after the flash flood warning, Dick told the night watchman to go home early so he wouldn't be stuck there, and it's a miracle that he said no. The kids in two or three more cabins probably would've died, too, if he'd listened.
130
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
All this stuff about installing better flood gauges and warning systems is... well-meaning but misguided. They had ample warning.
120
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
If only they'd had a policy of evacuating as soon as the NWS issued a flash flood warning, they'd all be safe.
110
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
At 3 am there was an inch of water over the road. Ten minutes later it was ankle deep. Ten minutes after that it was up to their knees. At 3:40 it carried Dick's SUV away.
110
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
The cabins closest to the river got evacuated safely, but the ones closest to the office are where everyone died. If only they had been told to evacuate on foot before 3 am, they'd all be alive.
110
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
Campers in another cabin watched in horror as he loaded everyone from Bubble Inn into his SUV and then they all floated away to their deaths.
110
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
Dick Eastland was awake and received the warning and knew the risks and it's a mystery why he didn't tell everyone to evacuate on foot and instead drove to the cabins and started evacuating them after 3 am.
120
Lisa @notmuchelse.bsky.social · 21/06/2026
The investigative report of what happened at Camp Mystic last year is so terrifying and awful. If only someone—anyone—would have got on the PA and told everyone to evacuate immediately at any time between 1:14, when the flood warning was issued and about 3:00, they would've all survived unharmed.

I went to the local independent book store because I wanted to buy a book but it wasn't in stock (and it's not in stock anywhere else) so they're ordering it for me and they'll call me whenever it comes in and I feel so transported back to the '90s right now, man. It's kind of cool.

Entirely predictable. Abortion pills changed everything. Making abortion illegal didn't make it any more stigmatized, but it made it a lot more private.

It's got a reservoir on the side for water and you have to use distilled or filtered water in it apparently, which seems like kind of a pain, but oh well. It seems like it will possibly stay cleaner than a regular, cheap, steamy drip coffee maker. We'll see.

We needed a new coffee maker and for the first time ever we decided to buy a big one that can make a carafe of drip coffee OR coffee (or whatever) from a pod. I used it for the first time this morning (carafe) and so far, so good!
