I am sick and tired of seeing this shit. DOGE was not a "missed opportunity," it was an intentional effort by billionaire oligarchs to destroy the federal government's capacity to do good things for the American people.

Iran sometimes does public executions but I can't find evidence they've ever televised one. It seems like North Korea, China, and Saudi Arabia have also never televised or livestreamed any executions. Looks like the U.S. will be in a club of one if Pete Hegseth goes through with this.

I saw an explainer about why so many botched executions, and while watching it I thought "you know what probably would be painless and hard to botch, putting a gun to somebody's head... and I bet there'd be plenty of volunteers" and then I put it out of my mind as ludicrous in this day and age.

Again, the last public execution in the U.S. was in 1936. It's hard to wrap your head around what we're currently accelerating toward.

Having recently investigated this in case I needed to fly with my expired non-realID drivers license, $45 gets the person at the TSA checkpoint to look you up in some unknown federal databses(s) & they may or may not let you through based on those results ($45 regardless). Very much NOT anonymous.

It's even more notable given newsroom discussions re use of "lie." The command from many on highs is that you cannot determine intent, so you cannot say he is lying, just that it is false. Interestingly, many of the same newsrooms can now determine whether he intends to "joke" or be serious.

I haven't done any for... 3 years? 5 years? 7 years? It's deeply overdue and I promise I'm getting to it. (Fabian stepped up and did a couple releases in the interim, but that's how long since *I* did one.)

dfan once pointed out that one of my song sketches did this absolutely absurd chord progression that made no sense (I think there was a tritone chord change), but that by the power of repetition, you start being comfortable with it and expecting it after a few repeats.

Somehow not everyone is aware of fact alluded to below. So one more time: John Roberts, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett were all on GWBush 2000 'Florida Recount' team. (Which made GWB first prez in 112 yrs to 'win' after losing popular vote. Now they 'impartially' rule on our future.)

No, that's not a meaningful benefit, not anymore than the droves of code being generated by AI is a tangible benefit to me and my life in any way.

I don't remember being scared by any media, but I can remember being scared of the basement in my house. I honestly believed there was some kind of risk of monsters lurking in the dark somehow, despite all the evidence to the contrary from past experience. The world as concieved by children is wild.

Anyway the idea of a soldier killing an armed civilian on US soil by shooting them in the back is the type of incident that would’ve launched an entire paramilitary movement on the right just as recently as two years ago.

I just want to live in the world we lived in 4 years ago before AI, which was fine, and boosters are like "you'll miss out on all the great stuff AI will bring us", and I don't see any evidence of that but okay. It feels like somebody in this story is John Galt but I'm not sure if it's us or them.

Oh wait, I see, it's just 90-degree rotated from the screen. So the idea is that there's some "texture" data and every screen pixel gets a specific UV offset to fetch from (a table or unrolled code or whatever), and then "scroll" through the texture.

what's a UV table in this context? obviously it's some kind of lookup table, but I can't figure out how they correspond.

This one has got to be only me, but just in case: Somehow I missed that the interpretation (offered by members of the Eagles) of Hotel California as being about Los Angeles, So. Cal., and the associated lifestyles--that interpretation sets up the title as just an overt declaration of the metaphor.

Remembering the weird rhythmic recitation of how to spell Mississippi incorrectly I somehow learned in my youth: M-i-s-s I-s-s-s I-p-p-p I and wondering where the hell that came from. Found a few identical misspellings and mentions of this cadence on google but no specific origin.

Don't believe everything Big Stock Photography tells you. The ACTUAL reason is because they believed the camera would suck their souls out through their mouths, and then their souls, freed from captivity, would become ivory tower academics, leaving their unsouled bodies good only for manual labor.

I don't remember exactly what I said, but I imagine it's largely the same opinion, but I certainly over-indexed on state being explicit, if I were making a big IMGUI system now I'd probably be more willing to have some implicit state tracked behind the scenes.

Sort of insane fact about how broken US urban planning is—America now spends more building *just the lights for roads and highways* than on all subways & ground mass transit combined Spending on roadway *pavement* is 18x transit spending

Like, if you typo or misspell when querying a chatbot, it usually correctly infers your meaning, even though the tokens are probably a lot "futher apart" than the typo is. Presumably a combo of having seen a lot of typos and treating them as synonyms, + being able to infer from context what's meant.
