When Burnham launched his campaign to become MP for Makerfield he said "There's £39bn allocated over a 10 year period... I'm saying that should be dedicated to council homes". Today Burnham backtracked on this proposal to dedicate housing funds for social homes.
A quote graphic attributed to Hannah Spencer MP that says "This is a massive backtrack by Andy Burnham who made a clear pledge to dedicate the £39bn Affordable Homes Programme to building desperately needed council housing. It is another missed opportunity to provide the genuinely affordable housing that is so desperately needed. I hear from so many people who are stuck on waiting lists, living in temporary accommodation or who are homeless. Andy Burnham is continuing to let these people down."

Big banks are raking it in... The UK's biggest banks are regularly making record-breaking profits. Not because they are improving their services of products... but simply because of high interest rates set by the Bank of England. High interest rates = big bank profits.

When I was growing up, I saw countless bands, and played a few gigs of my own at the Yorkshire House (later re-named the Yorkshire Tap). It was such a thriving small venue back in the day and scene of much nonsense. That owners are wilfully allowing buildings like this to rot is just not on.

At the entrance to Lancaster from the North next to the refurbished Waring and Gillow works, the former, well-loved Lancaster pub known as the Yorkshire House or Yorkshire Taps has now been empty for 6 years and has been severely vandalised with broken windows, graffiti and broken guttering.
Empty Yorkshire Tap building is a disgrace - Lancaster Councillors call for action. " is heart- breaking and worrying to see the state the current owners have let this building get into. We know young people have been getting in from the rear of the building. Intruders have broken all the windows and there are reports that illegal activities are taking place on the premises. This is an accident waiting to happen and the law is not on our side. We call on our local MP to make urgent representation to government about tightening up the law to require owners to keep their buildings safe, well-maintained and a credit to the area." - Biulk Ward Councillor Caroline Jackson + a photo of Caroline, a woman with short grey hair wearing a blue jacket - smiling - in front of the fenced off pub.
