This is your regular reminder: patriarchy is not men. Patriarchy is a system of oppressions that privileges male dominance and some women benefit from it. Feminism is not women or anything a woman does just because she's a woman. Feminism is the destruction of patriarchy. Feminism is liberation.

Being disabled does not make someone “a victim”, Nigel Farage. Having state support to go to school does not make someone “a victim” either. These kind of remarks are in many ways why I wrote Who Wants Normal? Disabled young people deserve more than this vile narrative.
Asked at this press conference about the rising number of children diagnosed with Send, and what could be done to help them, Farage replied:

It’s a massive problem. I have to say, for my own money, when you get to 18 and you put somebody on a disability register, unemployed, with a high level of benefits, you’re telling people aged 18 that they’re that they’re victims. And if you are told you’re a victim, and you think you’re a victim, you are likely to stay [a victim].
So many of these diagnoses, for Send before 18, for disability register after 18 – so many of these have been conducted on Zoom, with the family GP.

Farage talking arrant and nasty shit here. You can't get an autism/SEND diagnosis from a GP. People are having to wait years for one. This is just Trump/Kennedy stuff, with a flavour of Badenoch & the right wing UK media

so I do absolutely, entirely agree with this but it also does feel like the logical endpoint of treating university as "a thing you have to do for three years otherwise you won't get a job" - if you're not making a case for why a uni education is useful, don't expect people to actually respect it

Watched Adolescence. It is good and brilliantly acted. I don't think that the 1 shot thing helped the overall story, though. It's obviously very clever and meticulously planned and added extra tension to the first 2 episodes but meant that the resolution was awkward and convoluted. Still good tho

To recap, the government’s own analysis shows its cuts would leave: 250,000 people in poverty by 2030—including 50,000 children. 1 in 5 families with a disabled member worse off. 3.2 million people £1,720 worse off. They must abandon these cruel plans.

"Siri, explain to me 'failing upwards'." ~AA
Tice was educated at one of the country’s top boarding schools, Uppingham, in the East Midlands, so I ask what he got in his A-levels. “Not great.” An A in economics, an E in maths and an E in politics. He studied quantity surveying at Salford University and graduated with a 2:2. “Which I was disappointed with, because I really tried.”

Despite this setback, only four years later, aged 27, Tice was appointed CEO of the Sunley Group, the property company where he made his first millions. “One of the things I’m good at,” he says, “is making money.” But his personal website neglects to mention that the Sunley Group was his family’s firm, founded by his maternal grandfather, Bernard Sunley. Is Tice, I ask, a “top person”? Without hesitation: “Yes.”

Tried to sum up my thoughts on the Personal Independence Payment/Universal Credit situation without swearing or saying something about the Labour front bench that would get me in legal trouble. This is the best I could do.
Given the news coming out today, it’s probably worth mentioning that 7 in 10 autistic adults in the UK are unemployed. 7 IN 10. (And, heck, there’s a chance that this weekend I could be joining that statistic.) You’ll notice in all of this talk about welfare reform, and cutting the benefits bill, there’s been no discussion of actual solutions to make workplaces more accessible to disabled people, no further measures put in place to ensure that disabled people aren’t being ignored in hiring processes due to the impact their disabilities have, no reasonable accommodations at all. Simply a cut. An abandonment on the basic tenets of a functioning civilisation, where we make sure we look after and provide for those who are simply unable to look after and provide for themselves. Labour are actively choosing to force disabled people into poverty. This isn’t necessary. This isn’t unavoidable. It’s cruelty for the sake of cruelty. But, hey, at least we got the Tories out, right?
