The Reform promise to prioritise social housing for people *born* in the UK, as well as UK nationals, raises all sorts of questions, not least - would they exclude children born overseas as a parent is serving in the armed forces? Presumably so. But that’s just one complication.

New licensing for game shoots could stop poisoning of birds of prey
Scheme planned for England could also curtail tradition of releasing pheasants for people to pay to shoot From the end of August, Land Rovers load up with tweed-clad shooters, who go off to large estates and compete to fill the biggest “bag” of game birds, often shooting dozens at a time – a practice which has long appalled bird conservationists. Soon, the years-long campaign to stop the poisoning of birds of prey, as well as the release of tens of millions of pheasants into the countryside, could be victorious as a result of government plans for a new licensing scheme for shoots. The joy today is that hatred lost. Doesn't matter what you think of Burnham. Farage tried to invite a race riot. He dealt in explicitly racial rhetoric. If he'd won, many journalists would have considered it a vindication of his approach and branded our outrage evidence of how out of touch we are.

This is it exactly. A stick to beat Natural England, a longstanding target for the right, because it uses science/law to limit wealthy backers doing what they want to our wildlife and habitats. It doesn't matter if it's a lie, as long it has traction then it serves the purpose of attacking experts.

Some very inaccurate statistics are being bandied about. According to the BBC (extensively quoted elsewhere) 6000 ponies lived on Dartmoor in 2000. Yet the National Park authority estimated <1500 in 2006. A later study found 1000-1200 in 2016. It helps if you start with the facts.
