the best part of Control Resonant is landing a Ninja Gaiden II "Obliteration Technique" (the thing where a staggered enemy can be killed by pressing L3 with a cool anim) and The Board's guttural mumbling booms through my Sennheiser HD650s through a Schiit Hel 2 and I go "FUCK YEAH" every damn time

If we wanna cut these off at the source, stop sharing them, stop making videos about them, stop hosting them on your websites. Stop giving talentless hacks the attention they crave. Stop rewarding them for defiling our hobbies.

TBH I'm grateful for bad first pages - filtering out all the books I don't need to read What I hate is a good first page that sneaks a book past the filter, so I can learn for myself that the remaining 349 pages were phoned in

It really sucks when someone you were following for their work in the retro scene turns out to be big on AI and using it in all their projects. That instantly kills any and all interest in anything they ever make.

cloud control
an 1865 landscape painting by Lars Hertervig entitled Skogtjern (Forest Lake) - we see a marshland in a bronzed brown, with a menacing fog rising up into strangely shaped cloudsa 1942 painting by Leonora Carrington entitled Green Tea - an unusual bank of clouds hovers over an expanse of green, with fields hedged in. In the foreground are statuesque figures and miniature horses.

@andrew-ray.bsky.social Hi Andrew, I stumbled onto your blog via Kagi's new Small Web feature and am greatly enjoying it. If you haven't read this already, I think you might get some mileage out of Adrian Duncan's relatively recent novel The Gorgeous Inertia of the Earth

I was asked to give my thoughts on generative AI usage in games - here they are!
From the article:
"I think that until the bubble bursts, AI will be used by quite a few game companies, and perhaps even beyond the bubble," says Brandon Sheffield of Necrosoft Games, which released the RPG Demonschool last year. "Look, I am not a fool – I understand that AI has some uses. Primary among those being the devaluing of work, the cheapening of labour, the laying off of creatives, and the generation of busywork for humans to fix whatever AI generates."

"It's also useful for burning through water, raising the prices of RAM and chipsets globally, and poisoning anyone near the data centres that run them. So there are a lot of use cases for AI. From spurring on the death of the creative endeavour to dissolving our economy, AI is absolutely gangbusters at what it does. We don't use it in our studio though."

My cyberpunk video collage RESET is now on display in Singapore at ArtScience Museum as part of the exhibition Another World is Possible, which runs until 22 Feb. It was single channel at ACMI in 2024, but for this exhibition it's been fractured and placed onto a heap of screens, which is fitting.
A collection of screens - including older TV monitors and contemporary LCD screens - show clips from sci-fi films. They are arranged almost in a pyramid form.
