We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

It’s gonna be so weird watching establishment dems be performatively sadder about this than they were about the colleague and her husband and dog who got shot and killed

Annoying and embarrassing that Biden hasn’t already commuted the sentences of everyone on federal death row, especially after *running* on a pledge to end the death penalty. This really isn’t complicated, you don’t need Congress, you don’t need anyone else’s permission. Get it done.

My latest is a reflection on how people have responded to the killing of a health insurance CEO. "Rather than centering Thompson’s humanity, as scolding voices have demanded, they centered their own, and the humanity and suffering of others who were harmed by the insurance industry."

"but he did electric cars" We paid rich people to buy his cars instead of doing real environmental policy. California's ZEV credit system shuffled $10 billion more to Tesla, ~$1 billion of which was based on battery swap fraud. He got a free pass on safety and environmental regulation for a decade.

Democrats lost while doing everything the left was begging them not to do, and now most of them have concluded that this means that it was a mistake to listen to the people they ignored and to run the campaign they didn't run, and must now pivot to doing more of exactly what they did when they lost.

It's impossible to maintain a constant hypervigilance across the entire spectrum of threats. Hypervigilance will exhaust you and make you sick. Solidarity and real community helps. Be intentional with how you communicate with friends about breaking news. Don't be afraid to make requests.

One of fascism's main tactics is to physically and mentally exhaust you. To flood the zone with outrageous bullshit, to make you bite on a dozen pump-fakes — so that when the real shot comes, you're too worn out to react. We need to pace ourselves. It's only been a week. Alert fatigue is dangerous

Ppl think anarchists/antifascists are hotheaded or angry, or angsty. The truth is we love ppl, we have nothing but love for ppl. It’s why we get real fucking mad, mad enough to fight a mufucka to protect them, to help them. It’s why we will open our homes to ppl on the street, or bring them blankets

Palestinians, like all colonized people, have been living through the apocalypse for years. And we know that the End of the World means the end of oppressive systems, and the coming of new ways of relating--or the reviving of old, wholesome ways of relating to all our relations.

people support the right because it promises “security.” when it fails to deliver security, which it always does, it is never punished. because then it can promise vengeance. that, at least, it can deliver.

the short of it is you have to take the subjectivity of the past seriously and understand that an abolitionist in 1830, to just pick a year, has NO EXPECTATION THAT THEY WILL EVER LIVE TO SEE THE END OF THE SLAVE SYSTEM
