A side project I'm working on - an unofficial docs-style site for the open source Ink scripting/interactive fiction middleware. It takes all of the content in the official writing guide and breaks it into step by step chunks with flowcharts and further explanations. It has a reference section too!

A dark theme docs page about fallback choices in Ink. There's a sidebar with sections, a middle column with the content and a right sidebar with a breakdown of the sections in this page.

The same style of docs page as the previous image but on a different article, showing an ink example and a flowchart of how that works in practice.

Same format page as the previous two, but with a reference guide on Branching and Flow. The currently visible section talks about how addresses work.

Got a lounge chair from IKEA's reuse section at a really good price. Combined with my coffee bucket as a side table, it makes a nice makeshift reading/drawing area that I've really been wanting. Been reading way more already.

I base it on loose understandings of different jurisdictions. Norway has been my go-to for a while, I used to do Switzerland for a while, because they have very strict internet privacy laws, dunno if that still applies.

I was really bummed to find that my 2024 iPad Pro M4 doesn't support enhanced dictation in iPadOS 27. OpenAI Whisper does not require 12GB of Memory, why does this?

There was one time I lazily asked Siri AI an actual request just to see what would happen - I wanted to change a setting on my iPad and it didn't even give a response, it just didn't work. 🤷

FYI, Siri AI is *fine* (this is base level Apple Intelligence, my device doesn't support enhanced stuff). Asking it to change my lights or about the weather seems to take about as long as it did before. Now it sometimes leaves conversation entries for those simple requests in the Siri app. Wow.

IDK why I put myself in the queue for Siri AI as soon as I got iPadOS 27. I think it was because 1. I'm a UI nerd and wanted to see what it was like and 2. I was worried it was gonna make my normal Siri experience worse and if it does, I'd rather get ahead of it, give me the wrench, etc.

ofc, all of this sucks, but there's not much you're gonna do to get out from under 'protect the children' laws, and digital rights advocacy in the legislature is weak. Just do what you gotta do folks, with the least amount of risk to you.

Of course, you need to confirm your age with Apple. This may be automatically done for you if your account is old enough (as it did with me), but if it isn't, I'd trust Apple with that information a hell of a lot more than people like k-ID.

If you use an Apple device, you can confirm your age on Discord without resorting to the corrupt and dodgy k-ID. Log into Discord on your Apple device, then go to your account settings. Select 'Apple App Store' to confirm your age. Apple will confirm your age without sharing personal info.

In case you haven't heard of Ink - It's open source middleware for interactive text in games. All interactivity is baked into the markup and has a lot of really neat possibilities. It even has an editor that you can write and export games with out of the box! www.inklestudios.com/ink/

I really like Ink, it's a shame that it has less love compared to other interactive fiction middleware (and lacks rich text). While the manual for writing Ink is excellent, it is one long Markdown file. I wonder how easy it would be to break that up into a static docs website... 🤔

I do really want to tell stories, but I tend to experience the horror of the blank page when I try to push myself to write something linear. When I'm writing an interactive fiction project in Ink, it's a lot easier for me to just go and explore. Maybe that's telling me something.

iPads still aren't real computers, but permanent menu bars in iPadOS 27 edge them closer to the impression of one.

There was more awfulness at the keynote - the fact that they thought it was a great idea to group a bunch of health markers together into a user-presented life expectancy metric (with blood test DLC) is a pretty gross overreach and has me wanting to look for the exit doors on Apple Health.

I like my Apple Watch, I would like to upgrade it when the time comes, but now I'm thinking that I don't want to be perceived as a danger even if I don't have the feature turned on. All for a feature that is less reliable than consensually turning on Voice Memos in an important conversation.

With the new Apple Watches and the new Recap feature (which constantly records conversations, transcribes recaps and saves them on device), what Apple has done without caring or realising is they've now made wearing an Apple Watch a dubious proposition.

Combined a cheap laptop stand and a second-hand USB-C hub into an ergonomic drawing setup for my iPad 😊. Now I have a convenient and distraction-free study space 🎉

A silver, lifted aluminium stand with a USB-C hub attached to the back with velcro cable tidies. Multiple cables are coming out of the hub.

It amuses me that at some point Apple stopped bothering to add graphics for device models in iTunes. My iPhone 11 (2019) has an actual picture, my iPad Pro M4 (2024) has a placeholder graphic. (Yes iTunes is an app that still exists, and regrettably, I still have to use it for various reasons)
