#FolkTober film 1: The Wicker Man (1973). A police officer from the mainland searches for a missing girl on an island with very old traditions. Excellently made, well cast, and just an intriguing watch. Are we bad for rooting against the protag and for the pagans? I don’t think so; they’re more fun.

Picked up Ghost of Yotei earlier this month, and I am enjoying the hell out of it. Absolutely beautiful, an improvement over the already-excellent Ghost of Tsushima, and @erikaishii.bsky.social is awesome in the lead role. Also, Watanabe Mode is the best for my Champloo-style lo-fi vibes.

I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company.
Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code.
Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow?

Got my second game of Classic #Battletech in today. 8K BV, with my Wolf’s Dragoons against my friend’s under-strength mercs led by a Marauder II. In the end, it was a draw, with one crippled mech each, but if we’d kept going that Mad II would have wrecked my face.

The final round of the battle. The silver Hunchback in the center had just been pinched to death, but the Dragoons were still on the back foot.

The state of my lance at the end. Two through-armor crits had banged up my Warhammmer pretty badly.

As a bit of prep for our October horror movie marathon, @ninjamonkey.bsky.social and I watched One Cut of the Dead (2017) tonight. Fantastic. It’s like if someone merged Shaun of the Dead and Noises Off, two of my favorite movies. It’s also a love letter to low-budget filmmaking. Highly recommended.
