I.......am *really* torn on this. I'm a firm believer that low-budget horror films still work in SPITE of said budget cause you can utilize the limitations you're given to create something very interesting. In this case though??? It works its in favor...while also against its favor at the same time.

The War of the Worlds (1953): Aged remarkably well....in terms of VFX and monster design. The other aspects???? Oh man they've aged. Kinda got a little boring in some areas and I'm not entirely sure about using SoCal as the setting. But I do see why other sci-fi films got influence from it.
