Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day. As we reflect on the history and ongoing legacy of colonialism and the residential school system, and in support of the journey toward reconciliation, we would like to highlight a few of the Indigenous literature titles (1/8)
A collage of book cover thumbnails against an abstract orange background. Small footer text lists the publisher, Arsenal Pulp Press, and their website, arsenal pulp [dot] com, and in the top-right of the background is their logo mark (a circle with an off-centre jagged cross cut through) in semi-transparent orange. The books featured are as follows: “The 500 Years of Indigenous Resistance Comic Book: Revised and Expanded” by Gord Hill; “Tsqelmucwílc” by Celia Haig-Brown, Randy Fred, Garry Gottfriedson, and the KIRS Survivors; “Finding Otipemisiwak” by Andrea Currie; “Buffalo Is the New Buffalo” by Chelsea Vowel; “a body more tolerable” by jaye simpson; and “Together We Drum, Our Hearts Beat as One” by Willie Poll, illustrated by Chief Lady Bird.

The Lived Experience Narratives in Dementia programme wants to improve support for trans+ people living with dementia and their carers via a digital tool that shares dementia stories. If you are interested, please visit www.dementianarratives.org or email LEND@nottingham.ac.uk
Who we'd like to hear from: trans & non-binary people living with dementia, partners, family members, friends, chosen family, current and former carers, trans and non-binary people with experience of dementia (at any stage of the journey)
Why take part?: improve dementia support for trans and non-binary communities, ensure people's stories and experiences are represented, highlight the challenges and barriers trans people can face in care and support, shape furture dementia research and services.
What will happen?: You will be invited to take part in a friendly, relaxed group discussion with other trans people.
We want to hear about: your experinces of dementia, support that has helped (or not helped), challenges you have faced including in health and social care, what good and inclusive dementia support should look like for trans people.
You are in safe hands - we are committed to creating respectful, inclusive spaces where your identity, privacy and lived experiences are valued - you decide what you share.
There are too few trans voices in dementia research, help us change that - together. Your voice. Your experience. Better dementia support for all.
Interested? To find out more or express interest, please contact: LEND Programme University of Nottingham (email: LEND@nottingham.ac.uk). We welcome people at any stage in their dementia journey.
LEND (Lived Experience Narratives in Dementia) is a research programme funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research.

And that’s part of the insidiousness. Even if the feared violence never happens, the energy and worry spent calculating what you can safely do, the self-censorship, and the opportunities you give up (not just financial ones) are real harms in themselves.
