One of the right’s baked-in advantages is that the base is so blinkered, so bought-in, that the talking points don’t have to be remotely plausible; they can even be transparently false—the chuds just need something, anything to soothe their psyches so they can call it a win and move on.

My (loosely held) opinion: checking all of the boxes makes him valuable, but it hasn’t seemed to lead to a lot in the way of results, which makes him expendable.

What I can't get over is the Dems out there trying to transphobia their way out of these numbers. Just out there riding the crest of the wave, doing morally unsupportable pandering to bigotry at a time when it is also strategically foolish, just for love of the capitulation game.

I say this as a preamble to my main point, which is: When the government says it has the right to order striking employees back to work, implicit is the claim that the government is willing to *use violence* to compel workers to perform labour against their will.

I have two kids going to school in Toronto and travelling back and forth on average maybe once every six weeks. The train is so overpriced and inconvenient that we never even consider it—now it seems that VIA has decided that the status quo is too good and needs to be cut back some more.

These are kind of extreme examples, but I recently watched some video that showed how rope and iron were made pre-industrialization—in both cases: a huge amount of very slow work to produce a distressingly small amount of material.

If Netflix is actually doing this (and I can’t think of any other explanation for AI-generated stuff showing up in a 35yo show), it suggests that everyone watching sees their own uniquely corrupted version of everything.

Excellent point: good policy (on trans issues, Palestine, etc.) is ascendant in the Democratic Party—still a long way to go, but it seems logical to me to get on board and keep pushing in the right direction despite (absolutely legitimate) concerns about lingering gutless/brainless appeasement.

To crank up the nerdery one more notch: participation in the census is actively pro-social, a recognition that we live together and must work together; it’s encouraging that Canadians stepped up at a time when we’re being assailed by overtly anti-social forces (internal and external).

Maybe—I’ve come to expect very little bipartisanship anymore, but I’d be very happy to be wrong. It would certainly be nice if parties were focused a little more on getting things done and a little less on scoring partisan points.

Harper’s still very popular among conservatives, I think his openly showing support for Carney’s agenda reads as dissatisfaction with the current CPC at a time when there are already a lot of questions about Poilievre’s leadership.
