The most basic reason why the definition of "AGI" shifts every time an LLM can do a new thing is because "general" originally meant "indefinite skill-acquisition." Playing whack-a-mole is a different type of thing: training -> new capability -> can't do X -> train on X -> can do X now -> repeat.

“Zionism is racism” is not a policy but a slogan. It compresses a complex history, going back millennia, and a very wide set of beliefs into one narrow meaning. The answer to genocide is not discrimination. We don't fight racism with racism. I’m gutted to see this motion adopted by the Green Party.

The extent to which the rule "you are not allowed to insult the other side's voters" is applied exclusively to the left never ceases to infuriate me. "Basket of deplorables" and "cling to guns or religion" were WEEKS-long news cycles. There were panels. There was theme music and a logo.

Greens are seriously injured over an absurd, unnecessary, over-broad, political hand grenade of a motion going off, and now every right-wing group is shooting point-blank at the corpse. Great job!

I'm very anti the Green's very bad resolution. Same time, we do need to reckon with actually existing Zionism in practice - not just in principle (where I agree with you). And West Bank settlers, Ben Gvir and fever dreams of Greater Israel are part of that extant reality.

Imv the Green Zionism is Racism thing is a bad omen and a bad policy, and very ugly to target individuals. But I do think it's bad in a way which mirrors the branding of pro-Palestine protests as 'hate marches' etc., a thing which is dinner party, MSM and parliament acceptable. None of this is good

This is a classic of how and why we are drowning in bullshit 1. Relentlessly propagandise a population to believe false things 2. Defend those false beliefs by accusing anyone who points them out of snobbery and elitism 3. Advocate acting on those false beliefs because many people hold them

There is an argument that some AI-psychosis-sufferers tend to make which I find very gross, stupid, and bad. It goes something like, “the way you are talking about Claude sounds a lot like how they used to talk about [some historically marginalized group], sooo, you better think about that”.

I'm not sure about desktop ai, maybe we can just cover the Earth in data centres [derogatory] but for robotics we ultimately need vastly more efficient and resilient methods, and animals are still the only example!

AI subtasking is already remarkable tbf I suppose what I'm getting at is maybe a combo of decision making (broadly understood) and mortal computing, in the context of massively modular self-regulating systems and 'all cognition is collective' Like there is plenty to explore toward future tech!

Agree with that, and I think it points to the Q: What kind of organisation is needed to flexibly recruit and cohere those constraints into orchestrated behaviour? Often the answer is goals/targets - which come in a bunch of different flavours and can be a bit of an afterthought, like the veg option

I wonder if this vibe might lead to a shift in focus from optimans to optimanda*? If algorithms are becoming boring and off-the-shelf, maybe normative organization and naturalizing value pulls more attention? AI normativity routes straight back to the user so autonomous value creation remains v open

The model doesn’t have to be exposed to “5+4+1” to produce “10”. It can take “5+4+1” and after tokenization, the closest neighbor is “9+1”, and “10” is a likely association to that. 4/
