1/6 An extraordinary @nature.com paper has just landed from the lab of @sergiuppasca.bsky.social. They found a way to create "xenocortical mice" which have ~92% of their cortex occupied by a cortical organoid derived from human stem cells.

I'm very excited about this recent study, led by @pieterbarkema.bsky.social. We find that stimulus representations in the deep layers of V1 can be affected by *later* information: postdiction. See Pieter's thread for more information - and of course the preprint! @jhaarsma.bsky.social #neuroskyence

The post-hoc montage of perception: deep layers of primary visual cortex encode postdictive percepts
One of the most puzzling aspects of perception is postdiction: later information can change how a previous stimulus is perceived [1,2]. This indicates that perception is not a livestream of the extern...

Have you ever felt like something was missing from your #fmri results? Have you been worried about potential reproducibility issues? Well, this new @natmethods.nature.com article with 40+ coauthors shows how the simple change to transparent thresholding helps both. Go Figure! rdcu.be/B4tikBETdQZa
A comparison of old and new thresholding approaches for fMRI data. The newer, transparent thresholding allows for interpreting context, more complete modeling, a reduction of biases and an increase in meaningful content. This all leads to more accurate interpretations and improved reproducibility evaluations.

In contrast, I think we should #ReadMore. Time is (possibly) beginningless and it is often the case that what we think is a new idea has already been thought or said before. #books

It was such a rewarding experience to share a little something at a Pint of Science event on consciousness. A huge topic, slightly terrifying to tackle, but also incredibly fun to share with people! And a big shout out to my friends & colleagues at BCBL for their support & help! :) #pint26 #pint26es

When we see something that's moving, our memories about it end up projected forward in time: We remember it further along than it was. In a new paper in 𝘗𝘴𝘺𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘚𝘤𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, out today and led by @dillonplunkett.bsky.social, we demonstrate that this happens even when there is 𝙣𝙤 𝙢𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩𝙨𝙤𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧.🧵

a while back i threatened to share this. finally online for detection tasks we often systematically estimates sensitivity wrong. we need to control for unequal variance in models, but we often don't coz it needs extra data now there's a virtually 'free' way to do it www.cell.com/iscience/pdf...
