Interesting study, to add to the quote below: those diagnosed as children often were “problem children”, defiant or with conduct disorder. Those diagnosed as adults had higher levels of substance use, depression and eating disorder.

I love that 'Bee' in Greek is 'Melissa'—in legend, a nymph who nursed the infant Zeus on Crete.

Is there anything more iconic than a NINJA bioluminescent shark named after the author of “Jaws”? Just learnt about lanyernshark Etmopterus Benchleyi named after Peter Benchley
Shark seen from different sides. It’s all dark, it’s skin seems harsh and somewhat reflective to light, with contrasting bright eyes in the front of their body. It has sharp, short teeth, that appear connected as one structure. The body is long, not as wide as a more common depiction of sharks. I apologise, I don’t know enough about their biology to depict it more accurately. Image taken from Wikipedia

Day 68 of posting cool mushrooms every day: The Caterpillar Fungus (Cordyceps militaris) grows from dead underground insect pupae. This shape of fungi is called a "club." It is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine due to cordycepin and cordymin. (Source: bit.ly/4hzcPwr)
Out of very short, very green grass grows three orange club-shaped mushrooms. They look essentially like elongated Cheetos. The furthest left one is tallest. They all have "pores" on their surface that look like tiny, more orange, holes.

‘Nickname’ is not ‘nick’ + ‘name.’ It was originally ‘ekename.’ ‘Eke’ was the Middle English word for “also” or “in addition.” Since ‘ekename’ began with a vowel, people used ‘an’ before it. Over time, 'an ekename' became 'a nickname.'

Of course, when assembly-line models of education require removing disruptive outliers who might slow or impede the movement of the assembly line, it's really difficult from a young age for folks to imagine changing the world to be inclusive, supportive and accessible to a wider diversity of people.

5 years after my diagnosis I finally texted my family on the group chat that I’m autistic. Family incl. my dad who doesn’t believe depression is real, rest that think autistic diagnosis in our family comes sorely from being an overprotective parent. Interesting how this’ll unfold 😶‍🌫️

Please remember to use ALT text for full posts of your artwork you want people to repost so that people with low vision can enjoy them too I try to put in the effort for finished pieces, but I also want to be sure I'm reposting images w alt text for low vision followers Here's a guide to use!
A guide image on how to write alt text. Key descriptors would be "define who", "(facial) expression", "description", "color", and "interesting features". These helpful descriptors are defined in different colors.

The image features a capybara looking relaxed in a hot spring with a yellow yuzu fruit on its head. There is simple yet descriptive text next to it that highlights the core details, highlighted in the colors like the key descriptors describe.

it’s such a journey to accept one’s disability and i’m not quite there yet. i still miss all the things i used to be able to do without thinking. i miss walks, sign language interpreting, and a million other things. it’s okay to grieve what you’ve lost. it’s okay to miss who you were.
