#NationalPoetryMonth And finally, recommended by @kristinwrites.bsky.social, a silly poem she and her siblings recited as kids— Table Manners (the Goops) by Gelett Burgess
Table Manners
The Goops they lick their fingers,
And the Goops they lick their knives;
They spill their broth on the tablecloth--Oh, they lead disgusting lives!
The Goops they talk while eating,
And loud and fast they chew;
And that is why I'm glad that I
Am not a Goop--are you?

#NationalPoetryMonth Editors’ picks! Next up, recommended by @1storyteller.bsky.social , the first poem she ever memorized: Wynken, Blynken, and Nod by Eugene Field (link to full poem in comments)
First stanza of poem:

Wynken, Blynken and Nod
(1889)
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe-
Sailed on a river of crystal light,
Into a sea of dew.
'Where are you going, and what do you wish?'
The old moon asked the three.
'We have come to fish for the herring-fish
That live in this beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we!'
Said Wynken,
Blynken,
And Nod.

Full text of poem The Trust-o-meter:

I built a Trust-o-Meter from cardboard and tape.
It measures how trustworthy I am in excellent shape.
It rises when I tell the truth about who ate the pie.
(It was me. I was hungry.
Better honest than sly.)
It jumps when I return things the way they were lent.
My friend said
"You gave it back perfect.
That is rare. That is meant."
It dips just a little when I forget what I said, like promising to feed the hamster then going to bed.
But it bounces back quickly when I fix my mistake.
Trust grows again
every time you choose to remake.
My Trust-o-Meter is silly but it taught me one thing being trustworthy grows stronger with every choice that you bring.
And the funny part is everyone has one inside.
You cannot see it or touch it but you feel it with pride.

An illustration showing a person with dark hair and a white dress, gently wiping away a tear from one eye with their hand. The lower half of the image shows them standing on a large, blue and green Earth. Around the equator of the Earth, a row of colorful human figures in pink, light blue, teal, purple, and green are holding hands, the with a big, glowing pink heart at the center above their linked hands. The background is dark blue, with scattered, faint white stars. The overall mood is one of emotional tenderness, global unity, and hope.

Image of a newspaper titled “Harper Lee Happenings” on the left and the cover of “Loophole” by Rebecca Weber on the right.

Text of Harper Lee Happenings:
Maybelline "Maybe" Rood has stuck to a strict set of rules since Mama left five years ago: neatness matters, avoid boys at all costs and absolutely no talking aloud.
She's convinced by being good she will coax Mama back into her life. When her therapist suggests she confront her anxiety and OCD, Maybe must do the unthinkable: enter sixth grade at a public middle school.
Maybe meets a sith grade boy named Oliver and, after a rocky start. breaks one of her rules when they become friends. But then she discovers her safe haven and last remaining link to Mama, the Salem Public Library, is scheduled to close for good. Maybe pledges to save the library with Oliver's help, but is she brave enough to go through with their ambitious plan and possibly lose Mama forever? She can either obey her anxiety's repetitive demands or use her long-lost voice to finally make a diflerence.
