The obvious Pavlovian panic response to pings on my phone has set in. I hate it. Tell me why I shot up right mouthing “oh no!” As my eyes spotted a text come in from mom this morning, only to find it was a delightful family text wishing us a Happy 4th. How can I unwind this response? It’s too hard.

Have been shepherding my beloved parents through some tough times for the last 4 months and we do a lot of texting. They are a young 76 and can tech enough. Voice calls are reserved for true emergencies. But the texts have carried heavy things too.
