Fine and perceptive report out of MIT on AI in education: MIT wants to rebuild education around the things AI can't replace. That means oral exams, semester portfolios, in-person project work, and a required social component in every subject.

There isn't a world where machines generate reams of new knowledge and it somehow becomes unimportant for humans to understand them. Consequently, preserving the institutions and systems that make this possible is of value!

Can ML generate theoretical insight, not just predictions? Our procedures turn predictive models into anomaly generators, producing minimal cases existing theory can't explain. We apply it to revisit choice under risk. @sendhil.bsky.social @asheshrambachan.bsky.social buff.ly/F0ouzAV

What role do social networks – and the precise nature and structure of social interactions – play in the production of public goods and in human welfare? What about social contagion? A thread on some of our #HNL experiments with many thousands of participants from 2010 to the present. 1/

Do our social media algorithms correctly reflect our values? Our new article published today in @pnas.org shows that the answer is often not, and that the content that gets promoted into their ranked feeds is often actively counter to our values.

Cool paper from @nikhilsinghmus.bsky.social group @dartmouthartsci.bsky.social on how to iteratively edit (AKA "sloptimize") images to maximize the probability of being chosen over alternatives. arxiv.org/pdf/2602.15278

AI agents are sensitive to nudges. Indeed, LLM's can be behaviorally brittle under subtle changes in choice architecture, even in the absence of adversarial settings. www.pnas.org/doi/abs/10.1...

🚨New Preprint 🚨 Current agent evals mostly measure competence, but miss behavior e.g. are their decisions stable, rational, manipulable, human-like? We introduce ABxLAB, a framework for studying agent behavior. Using it we create an agentic consumer behavior benchmark. 🧵1/9

Excited to share ABxLab, our new open-source framework that lets you run controlled experiments on AI agents in real web environments! We used it to study purchasing behavior, an emerging application for agents, with pretty wild results.
