So using map services to map stuff and couldn't tell what the road conditions where in an area, used a couple different maps to try and compare. Turns out the trail I had mapped is brand new it only shows up in google earth, in google maps it's under construction and bing maps it's just green field.

Doing a little project of mapping out bikeways that connect all the larger towns and cities in Washington State and where there are gaps in the network. Threshold is 10k pop as of the 2026 estimate (I did round Bellingham up to 100k cause like so close and it makes things look prettier imo)

something crazy to think about is that if we assume a vehicle cost of 60K with a lifespan of 200k miles, that means that per mile you are spending 30 cents of the cars lifespan, if using a 5 year 10% loan that adds another 7.5 cents per mile cost. at 20 mpg with $3 gas that's another 15 cents a mile

Like there is 3 very distinct rurals I know of. 1 is the rural suburb with 1-5 acre lots. Sure you can do a lot of rural things but you also can see your neighbors. 2 is the relatively large farms with the fence lines you know something is there and occasionally might even see signs of life.

Okay so actually rural areas are largely as poor as they are because the government bends over backwards to subsidize the shit out of the wealthy elite who lord of the areas. That farm subsidy goes to white wealthy farm owners who often also own the dealership and hold local office.
