Thanks to @niscifest.bsky.social last night I got to see Steve Backshall give a talk on marine conservation. It was a really special moment for me as he is one of the broadcasters who inspired me to pursue science communication. A fantastic event and I learned so much 🐋🐬

Been wanting this set for years, and I finally found one brand new and sealed on eBay for a decent price 😍

Because of flu I'm only just making a start on Amber Isle, but I'm already obsessed. I cannot tell you how cool it is to play a cosy palaeo-themed game that was developed literally opposite the museum I work in. Amazing job @ambertail.games - I'm so excited to keep playing!

Brilliant talk from @ashwhiffin.bsky.social this afternoon on enhancing biodiversity at museum sites. It can be challenging to balance natural interventions with site use and access, but it is possible. Amazing what can be achieved with enough motivation and collaboration between departments!🪻🦋🦊

Earlier this week @vmillar2018.bsky.social and I learnt more about Gus the goose from printer, Andy. Gus is an amazing 21 years old and has been at the Folk Museum since birth, so for a third of the museum’s life.

I unironically wish I could thank Cynthia Erivo for changing my LIFE with her Elphaba performance. I loved Wicked as a teenager, and elements of Elphaba's story resonated with me in a way I didn't fully understand until now. So after 2 hours of bawling my eyes out, a self care night is in order 🥹

At #Museums2024 I had the pleasure of bumping into someone I studied alongside in Manchester over 10 years ago. We were both studying science degrees, and we both now work in the museum sector. It just gave me this lovely sense of 'I've come full circle, this is where I was meant to be' ☺️

In 2021 my colleagues @adriftlab.bsky.social @thelabandfield.bsky.social removed ~1400 pieces of plastic from the stomachs of 76 seabirds and gave them to me to analyse. It's hard to appreciate the scale of the problem so I made these spirals to show how plastics vary in size, shape, and colour.
