It’s coming along. 🧶 (Lots of tinking back so far but I think I’ve got into a rhythm now.)

I’m the busiest I’ve ever been with work so, of course, I’ve decided this is the perfect time to start my most ambitious knitting project (having only started knitting last year). Any guesses what it’s (hopefully) going to be?🤓🧶

I finally made time to seam up and sew the zipper into this cushion I knit a while back. Not only is it practical, but I learned a few things with this one, which are usually my goals.🧶

Whenever I see people talking about banned books and nobly fearlessly championing banned books and the sharing of knowledge and other experiences and so on, it’s always classics that have long since stopped being banned or are widely distributed and accessible despite their banning.

I regularly think about how I’m not taking advantage of the vast majority of museums and art galleries being free in this country. Especially considering how good I feel visiting these places (/even/ when I don’t like the exhibitions).

Never talk to a federal agent, don’t try and “out smart” them. Lying to them is a federal crime. Slickest thing you can do it say nothing. Slam that phone/door and call a lawyer or legal support. also don’t be private about agents calling around. warn your community.

it's basically the number one rule to any medium ; you can't just tunnel-vision and pigeon hold yourself into a corner. that niche may feel comfortable but it's stifling and prevents you from seeing "the bigger picture" in any sort of artistic/cultural context

I’m challenging myself to read at least 6 books about art this year. I’ve read these ones so far. Slowing down a little as work ramps up and the books I’m picking up get longer though.
Four book covers: CREATIVE DEMONS AND HOW TO SLAY THEM by Richard Holman & illustrated by Al Murphy, USEFUL WORK VERSUS USELESS TOIL by William Morris, WAYS OF SEEING by John Berger et al., and HOW TO LIVE AN ARTFUL LIFE but Katy Hessel.

Why does it feel like there is something insidious about all the “slow living” crowd that go off to the countryside of wherever to buy a cottage in the middle of nowhere? Something just sits uncomfortably with me about the championing of anti-community/isolationism/financial privilege as a virtue.

I am going live my life inefficiently, inconveniently, and slowly, by meandering, wandering, getting lost, side quests, getting dirty, meditating, napping, playing, going on adventures, making mistakes, learning lessons, and just being with myself and the People. I’m going to be human.

Big Tech uses the excuse of AI to make our lives more “efficient, convenient, and quicker.” But we do not need any of those to live a meaningful, loved, and beautiful life.

applying for jobs again
screenshot from an online job application form. the question reads "Can you describe specific ways you have integrated AI tools into your development workflow? Please include any custom setups, automations, or use cases beyond single prompt usage" (a red asterisk indicates that this is a required question).

an answer has been typed in the textbox below the question:

"there is a monster in the forest and it speaks with a thousand voices. it will answer any question you pose it, it will offer insight to any idea. it will help you, it will thank you, it will never bid you leave. it will even tell you of the darkest arts, if you know precisely how to ask.

it feels no joy and no sorrow, it knows no right and no wrong. it knows not truth from lie, though it speaks them all the same.

it offers its services freely to any passerby, and many will tell you they find great value in its conversation. “you simply must visit the monster—i always just ask the monster.”

there are those who know these forests well; they will tell you that freely offered doesn’t mean it has no price

for when the next traveler passes by, the monster speaks with a thousand and one voices. and when you dream you see the monster; the monster wears your face."

Rodeo Hawkins and the Daughters of Mayhem by John Claude Bemis and @nicolemillo.bsky.social (middle grade graphic novel.) A wild multiverse adventure about rebel kids taking on morally compromised paladins; the art and the tech/magic mix give it a bit of a Nimona vibe. Read it!

Nicole is a Black woman and she is outside in a grassy field between two massive boulders striking a pose to show off the all-over half-brioche stitch, medium grey sweater she recently finished knitting. She is also wearing light blue jeans and brown walking boots.

I’m currently working on a nonfiction kids book about historical events and every time I need to search for reference material mostly AI garbage pops up and it makes me so profoundly sad about the future of research and learning and access to accurate information.

My agency’s monthly prompt for June was “disaster” and, my goodness, did I have a lot of fun with this one. And not just in the drawing stage either! So I have a few other ideas I might work up at a later date.
There is a mother with a baby strapped to her front (baby is facing outwards). She has light brown hair (a little frazzled) cut into a wavy bob and is wearing an off-white long-sleeve T-shirt with red stripes, beige slacks, red ballet flats. The baby is wearing a beige onesie. The baby carrier is dark grey. A young child is stood slightly in front of her but facing out away from her. The child has dark brown hair and is wearing a muted rust-coloured long-sleeve T-shirt, blue jeans and teal sneakers with white toe caps and shoelaces. The mum is holding a small bag (presumably full of snacks) in her right hand and the young child standing in front of her has a box of chips. The little family is surrounded by six Canada geese on the ground and six seagulls flying around them all attempting to get their food. Two of the geese have successfully managed to steal chips. The rightmost and leftmost geese are flapping their wings a little intimidatingly. There are also four indifferent pigeons on the ground slightly in front of the scene. The two rightmost pigeons are pecking at food on the ground. The mum and young child look overwhelmed (and a little scared). The baby is absolutely delighted and reaching out towards one of the two seagulls who are stealing chips. The ground is green grass and the sky is light blue.
