My daughter stashed some cash in amongst the Christmas decorations we packed away last year. She did it so we could get a takeaway on the day we put the tree up this year. I think this will become a new festive tradition in our gaff.

What you would see if Andromeda was brighter in the night sky

If the Andromeda galaxy were brighter, it would be a major feature in the night sky, visible even in cities with moderate light pollution:

Huge: It would appear roughly six times larger than the moon.

Dominant: It would dominate the sky and be easily identifiable every night.
Visible in cities: It would be visible even in cities with moderate light pollution.

The Andromeda galaxy is currently too far away to be easily seen:

Distance: It's 2.5 million light years away, or about 25 Milky Way diameters.

Visibility: Only the super-condensed nucleus of Andromeda is bright enough to be visible to the naked eye.

Appearance: To the naked eye, the galaxy's disk appears as a fuzzy smudge about one-quarter of a degree wide.

you’re peering down into a styrofoam cup that was in a car’s cupholder. it is mostly empty but has some blue slushie way down at the bottom with a mysteriously tongue-shaped hole carved through the ice in one spot. the back of a golden retriever’s head is visible in the upper right corner of the photo. the dog may or may not be avoiding eye contact.

Our elderly dog, Wilf, has chosen to sleep downstairs by himself for the first time ever. He’s normally on our bed. I think it’s because he can’t be arsed with the stairs. Husband bereft.
