#RecipeOfTheDay – The Rainbow Room’s Carrot and Peanut Salad – is too simple to count as a recipe, really, but it’s the ideal thing to be making and eating now! Besides, it tastes so much more than the sum of its parts. www.nigella.com/recipes/the-...

I hope we're going to see many charges for incitement to racial hatred, incitement to violence and incitement to riot, all of which have been happening blatantly and prolifically on social media. Or will two-tier policing in the UK, favouring the right and the far right, prevail yet again?

Everyone on X and elsewhere who called for a violent response should be charged with incitement. Everyone involved in the pogrom should be locked up with exemplary sentences. Govt should make it clear that will be the response in future anywhere else. Enough.

Condemning riots isn't enough. We need policy action, including an immediate appraisal of X as a vehicle for coordinating far-right disorder. And we need political leadership, to challenge white nationalism as an idea, not to validate it daily and then complain when it turns violent.

The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.
And our governments are very much the same.

They are all very deliberately ignoring the express wishes of Henry Nowak's family; the judge's sentencing report & the obvious, albeit brief, consequences of a crime being reported exclusively by a lying associate of the perpetrator. It may feel futile but this has to be repeated again & again.

The thing about Reform's success is this: whatever their political future, whether they have peaked or not, it is hard to express just how unpleasant the resurgence of their sentiments actually is. I grew up in Greater London in the 1990s, and a lot o that time was very grim. And it's back.

Given the limited powers of local authorities and the constraints on financing and on doing anything, a majority is something one would perhaps wish on one's political opponents. It is almost impossible for a majority to do well in charge of a local authority nowadays, only grades of doing badly.

Whether Starmer goes is more a matter of politics than about the constitution, but the Prime Minister should properly account to Parliament for his own decision to appoint Mandelson. His current approach of ducking, and blaming and sacking others, is a failure of prime ministerial responsibility.
