Blood pressure trending higher over the last six months so my doctor basically prescribed less news and less social media. ✌️out.

This is like if someone asked AI to imagine a tasteless mega-mansion and fed it one image of Fallingwater. Woof.

For the record, the interior of the Ferrari Luce is also really fucking ugly. I would definitely buy a Slate truck, though.

What in the name of terrible AI slop is that image? 😂

Also, it reminds me of shitty home builders trying to make their shitty houses look modern and “interesting“ by doing (bad) things with the roofs.

I’m really hoping the architect model shop just decided to make the model out of “TBD generic black color” model material instead of the typical “TBD generic white color“ material while the architects decide on actual materials and finishes for the building.

Nothing (that I’ve owned personally) was more plush than the cloth seats in my 1999 Suburban. God bless that green rectilinear beast. I’m especially fond of my plaid cloth seats in my GTI.

The president is refusing to spend taxpayer money assisting Americans suffering from natural disasters solely because their states didn't vote for him. I know there are a thousand scandals at the moment, but this one deserves some more oxygen at every level.

And what’s a good and effective strategy for collecting money from individuals and corporations to be spent on the benefit of the public? Time to tax those m’fers.

The effective federal corporate income tax rate: 1950: 50% 1990: 25% 2020: 13% Stop asking "but how we will pay for it?" Restore the corporate tax rate. That is how we will pay for it.

Absolutely horrifying, but is it really scarier than when you can’t find a free parking space right by your destination? Who can say, really?

“…funding cuts and the ongoing tension regarding the pandemic's origins are already hindering research focused on preventing the next pandemic.” "We are less safe. We are less prepared for a pandemic right now than we were in 2019," says Goodrum. "And this is terrifying to all of us."

One reason Social Security is running short of money in 2032 is because a small number of voters, faced w/a choice of voting for the guy who promised to use Clinton’s surplus for tax cuts & guy who promised a Social Security lock box, couldn’t figure out the Butterfly Ballot in Palm Beach County.

I have literally taken the Acela on this route and the guy in the booth next to me was billionaire NBA team owner Ted Leonsis. Trains are the obvious choice for billionaire LeBron James if he’s going to commute. Helicopters already cost us an NBA legend, and that’s enough. No helicopters.

We could also maybe stop burning fossil fuels to give us a (small) chance to prevent them in the first place. 🤷‍♂️

#3 could be nice with different lap exposures and colors (instead of panels or board/batten) between the main house and the secondary bay window massing at the front and rear. Bay windows get wide or narrow exposure and the main house gets the opposite.

Also, without a covered porch, the continuous horizontal trim that aligns with the door head in the 5th option is a clever way to mask the overall height of the facade.

nick thorn @nickjthorn.com · 26/07/2026
I like 4 & 5. The lap siding feels more appropriate and provides some nice texture. I like the variation of different lap exposures and the horizontal trim boards. I’m never a fan of board/batten on re-cladding projects because it’s tough aligning panel joints with existing window spacing.

Honestly, I like it. Natural light in the bathroom is always nice and I like how the kitchen is tucked away from the living room. Having the bath on the exterior wall creates a nice circulation path to the bedroom. Otherwise, the living room basically becomes a corridor if the bath is inboard.

I hate to ”both sides” this, but republican text messages are just as terrible and rage inducing. As 10-year recovering former republican, I still get their stupid messages. Modern political campaigns are simply miserable across the ideological spectrum.

Smoky skies in Toronto have led to new scrutiny of government efforts to fight fires and manage forests. But scientists say the realistic way to tackle the smoke is fighting climate change itself.

I felt this same way coming back from two weeks in England. My $50 uber ride could (should) have been a $10 train ride in Northwest Arkansas. Commuting to the job site for meetings the next day in bumper to bumper traffic was quite the shock to the system.

Nobody disputes that having access to a car in a car-dominated society is good. It gives one access to jobs, healthcare, food, education, social opportunities and more. All we're asking is for people to go one step deeper and ask why access to such basic rights requires buying and operating a car.

It’s worth noting that Taco Bell identified the source before the FDA did, and promptly pulled it from their stores. The FDA didn’t even name the source until Taylor Farms outed themselves, and hasn’t issued a recall. Basically, Taco Bell is now a more reliable authority than the FDA.

Why does the preference of those who choose to sleep outweigh the preference of those who want to look out the window and stay awake? 787s have huge windows, too! Their preference disrupts my preference. Just buy a fucking eye mask so you can sleep. I’m never flying a 787 Dreamliner again.

Flight attendant told me to sleep and she wouldn’t change it because my windows might offend someone behind me. Fuck that. I chose a window seat to LOOK OUT THE WINDOW. I doubt I’ll fly the 787 again if I can help it. 👎
