Canadians have accumulated nearly $3 trillion in retirement savings, yet have almost no democratic say over how that money is invested. Why are our pensions financing fossil expansion and foreign capital instead of a livable future? @nickgottlieb.bsky.social makes the case for reclaiming them.

Agreed, most investors would do due diligence here and it's probably more for making it seem legit when the CIB, etc., shell out billions to back the project. But he's also selling investors on the idea that the Canadian govt is all-in on this project, making it more appealing for them

It's hard to imagine that a German buyer would sign a long-term offtake agreement with KLLNG, and they may well not be able to reach agreeable terms. The Pacific-Atlantic arbitrage trade has only really made profitable sense (relative to shipping to Asia) during crises 4/

As SEFE puts it, this "agreement is contingent on the finalisation of a definitive Sales and Purchase Agreement between the two parties." This is, in other words, not yet an offtake agreement (distinct from KLLNG's earlier deals with Total and Shell). 3/

Canadian media credulously implied this was a sales and purchase or offtake agreement which would be a significant step in Ksi Lisims's troubled bid for a positive final investment decision. But the German buyer's press release clarifies that it is not. www.sefe.eu/en/media/new... 2/

I'm sorry, this is the @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social's billion dollar plan to reduce domestic energy consumption? It's 2026, give the people heat pumps for god's sake news.gov.bc.ca/releases/202...
A screenshot reading:

Helping people save every day

Power Smart 2.0 is designed to offer customers practical ways to save with minimal effort. An average customer in an electrically heated home, taking full advantage of available programs and offers, can offset as much as one‑third, and in some cases nearly half, of their annual BC Hydro bill.

Free smart thermostats (a $350 value) will be available in fall 2026 for homes with electric-baseboard heating, helping automate savings and improve comfort.
New rewards for residential customers will provide the ability to earn as much as $200 per year, plus additional bill savings from using less energy.
Enhanced support for income-qualified households can earn them as much as $325 annually through expanded programs, in addition to bill savings, from making energy-efficient choices.
A new mobile app will be launched in fall 2026, making it easier for customers to track usage, access programs and manage their accounts.
Instant rebates at checkout can lead to with savings of $10 to $200 on energy-efficient products at more than 300 stores throughout B.C.

Industrial users—whether it's LNG, mining, or data centres—should be required to pay for their new generation capacity rather than shouldering the workers of BC with those costs. BC Hydro should be forcing them to do that through these kinds of programs as a first line 3/

Agree with all of this, but also, if we're launching a billion dollar campaign to reduce electricity consumption to free up power for new industrial users...the industrial users should pay for it. They should be buying everyone heat pumps, replacing windows, etc. This has potential to be win-win 1/
