Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 15hCUE is just fascinating to me. I'll bet that we'll see more of it, not less. Agents or not, you don't want everything in a general purpose programming language, especially not what CUE is good at. 230
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 29/09/2026I have breached containment and brain dumped about AI in a family group chat. 030
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 29/09/2026Yep it’s just a really good process supervisor across several nodes. That’s like the one sentence selling point for me at least. 110
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 29/09/2026Don't get me wrong, controllers/operators are my preferred pattern at scale. However, at our team size and scale, CUE-ifying the things is letting us de-duplicate tooling and mainly just allowing the provision-ers, deploy-ers, etc. from other tools to do their thing. 4/4 110
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 29/09/2026Of course, there's still other tooling in the loop. Some small bash shims, for example. However, mainly ArgoCD does the work. CUE gets us the generated manfests that it uses. Some of the ArgoCD Applications from upstream helm sources, but we don't manage or vendor them directly (yet(?)). 3/4 110
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 29/09/2026As a result, CUE has filled a really good in between niche where we've been able to have validations, configs, overlays, etc. without needing an expansive setup with helm charts, various kustomizations, kubeconform, etc. We use ArgoCD for deployment and CUE for everything up until that point. 2/4 110
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 29/09/2026Yes! Very much so. It's long story, but the short version to why CUE's been a great fit is that we didn't want to own/build/run controllers/operators at our size (yet), but we also didn't want to use a general purpose programming language or bash or scripting for automation either. 1/4 110
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 28/09/2026none yet, sadly. i do want the x2 elite though. asus ascent seems to be a good box for it? 110
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 23/09/2026Jev shaped releases are exciting and we’re thinking internally about confidence levels, alert filtering and how we can make better software rather than more software. I’m a bit over the speed part now. I am much more interested in agents for quality from now heading into 2027. 191
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 23/09/2026A goal of mine for the remainder of this year is going to be increasing quality, understanding, intention and testing for what LLMs synthesize. That sounds obvious, but it’s too easy to get addicted to speed and prototyping. 142

Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 19/09/2026I do like that app a lot. It’s just been awhile since I’ve used it. And by awhile I mean like 1.5/2 months lol 010
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 19/09/2026Oh awesome! Thats exactly what I was hoping to hear. Any big hiccups? Is it just an internet cable and power cable or do you need video output handy for management? 100
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 19/09/2026I just read “pair programming” and the whiplash almost made my neck explode. I forgot it existed. 140

Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 18/09/2026(I added “BREAKING” to sound cool and didn’t see anyone else post it but I don’t think it was cool in the end) 000
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 18/09/2026BREAKING: starting today in version 2.1.277, Claude Code gains AGENTS.md support. From Thariq from Anthropic: if “there is no CLAUDE.md in a folder, Claude will check for and use AGENTS.md. You can toggle this behavior in /config.”agents.mdAGENTS.mdAGENTS.md is a simple, open format for guiding coding agents. Think of it as a README for agents. 271
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 17/09/2026Not at all. More like Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, etc. are outclassed in this form factor. Even AI Max+ 395 and N1X/GB10. 210
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 17/09/2026Less of a DE problem, more of an “M series chips are insane” problem 130
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 17/09/2026All I want to do is run Linux again but the Macs are too good 360
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 17/09/2026100%. My hope, and fortunately I have seen us get closer through this throughout the year, is that while code is cheaper to produce than ever before, it’s also more important than ever before. Good architecture and maintainability will win. 010
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 17/09/2026Thank you :) I really appreciate it! It’s a thin lens of what we did, but the gist of how the backend worked hopefully shined through. The repo is open source too if you want to learn more. I still go back now and then to see how we did things. github.com/systeminit/si 010
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 17/09/2026I loved this! I had a lot of similar takeaways from the other talks. Your last point on mine is exactly what I was hoping some folks would pick up on :) general purpose VCS is not necessarily easy to plug into specific domains too 010

Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 16/09/2026You still have to refactor a lot with LLMs if you want long term success. I employ domain driven design just as much as before. I think people still don’t see that, regrettably. 140

Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 12/09/2026That’s presently the case. But SteamOS, Bazzite, NixOS-derivatives, etc. are bringing in a new type of user. I would not be surprised if Ubuntu went immutable too in the next ~5 years. Sure, to your point, Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch… not immutable. 000
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 12/09/2026Feels like the Linux desktop doesn’t expand its market share without the most popular distros having an immutable base. 120
Nick Gerace @nickgerace.dev · 12/09/2026It’s so easy to fall in the “wait I can build this” pit now that these agents are so good. Programming languages, OSes, you name it. Most of it is going to be a hidden time trap… but some of it Just Works™️ after thoughtful design and iteration. You can see why people do it. 021
