I took her analogy to mean “Ossoff did good.” I also don’t know what a sport is.

We all know that "great man" theories of history are complete garbage. I will suggest however, that "terrible man" theories of history are quite valid

Yada yada yada all the substantive stuff, but I’m really fucking annoyed that our social/economic betters have all adopted cartoon character uniforms. Steve Jobs w his turtleneck and jeans, Musk and Jensen w their all black + leather jacket, Trump with his distinctive bullshit. A holocaust of taste.

It was the most uncomfortable part of loving that show. Whedon attempted to denude it by stripping slavery entirely, but yeah, was hard to stomach.

Since 2020, at least 51 ICE and CBP officers, agents, and contractors have been convicted or accused of sexual misconduct — 34 of them for crimes against children. These are the masked men kidnapping women and children off the street into unmarked vans and disappearing them into concentration camps.

No. He should write down and publish something he unironically believes. Perhaps he could simply not engage in a style of communication that requires the viewer to watch hours of content before determining which monstrous thing he’s saying sincerely, and which monstrous thing he’s saying for lulz.

I've taken time to reflect, learn, and grow, and I'm not sure I still believe this is a live concern. I am an older man now, wiser, and the experience I've enjoyed since I posted this has led me to doubt my brash, youthful certainty.

to hear Trump tell it, American elections were completely corrupted while he was president and he was helpless to stop it, then they were cleaned up by Biden ahead of Trump's victory in 2024, and now that Trump is president again they are once again becoming third world caliber

The most frustrating part of the tendency towards posting as pressure release valve. As others have pointed out, Twitter/Bluesky/etc. is sky-writing. You're putting your messages out there for everybody to see. Opponents will use what you post to characterize everybody even marginally on your side.

For my part, I've always wanted some form of consolidated database of the scandals and vileness of Trumpworld. Something like that will be needed during Nuremberg 2.0. To my knowledge, what we've got is a couple of dedicated Redditors and things like the Campaign Legal Center's corruption reports.

That’s fair. I see that we’re likely in agreement that the issue w the Biden admin is that it put in some progressives, both of the woke & economic variety, but that they refused to practice accountability politics. Maybe it was less obviously necessary last time. Now, it’s quite apparent.

This perspective really has to contend with the fact that the Biden administration almost entirely handed staffing over to Elizabeth Warren and the Warrenite wing.

Largely same. My only problem with this idea is that it butts up against some real physical limits via-a-vis natl parks. They already get so damn crowded, diminishing the experience a bit for everybody who resentfully makes up the crowd.

For the people saying critics of Democrats on immigration from the left don’t have an alternative, I always say “go look at the Statue of Liberty, that’s our immigration policy.”
Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

The NYT’s The Daily’s coverage of the NY primaries this morning is the most hyperbolic, scare-mongering anti-left coverage I’ve heard from them in a while. Whinging, tendentious concern-trolling.

“For a lot of my colleagues, the argument has been, ‘well, we don’t support defund the police or open borders, and we don’t say we do,’” Frank said.” I’m absolutely furious this is what people think “the left” advocate for in this country. Just stop supporting genocide and pass Medicare for all.

What persuadable voters see when anyone forces Trump to govern better, whether it's a Dem majority or his own staff, is Trump "learning". This is partly him as wealth totem, partly the nature of the presidency, but it's exceptional thanks to how he's made himself the sole protagonist of US politics.

But also, it’s a lazy take to transmute Serenity’s cast of women into obviously sexual objects, instead of simply a taxonomy of women as the creator envisions them. They are as much—or as little—objects of sexual fixation as the men are.
