A publishing ecosystem that brings communities of scholars, librarians & OA publishers together to participate in knowledge production, publication, & dissemination is viable. Research cultures would benefit from being more collaborative than competitive. Institutions can help to bridge the gap(s).

Anyone with a Netflix subscription can see why Proquest’s new model will be unacceptable to libraries & users. Disappearing titles, content you don’t actually want, annual fee increases & if you can’t pay you lose everything. Libraries have purchasing power & should collectively reject this model.

Another fascinating read in the latest Clarke & Esposito brief, we really do seem to be on different planets. This time the bit about read and green policies made me raise an eyebrow, I don't see many libraries paying for rights that never should have been taken from authors in the first place

Preprints that are openly licensed eg CC-BY or CC0, are openly licensed. Entities can challenge whether licensing was appropriate, but we will not just remove properly licensed content. COS will follow the law, and is willing to participate in legal challenges when the law and our mission conflict.
