SCONUL are looking to recruit a new Deputy Director. A great job for somebody wanting to work across the HE library sector: www.sconul.ac.uk/media/uhpjvf...

blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsoci... Infuriating- ‘In May 2024, Informa, the parent company of Taylor & Francis, received $10 million from Microsoft to access academic content for its AI assistant, Copilot; Wiley will receive $44m from AI rights deals, with no opt-out for authors’

Clarivate delays its plans due to overwhelming negative reaction from library community. It at least gives libraries more time to adjust our procurement, systems and workflows with different suppliers.

Anyone with a Netflix subscription can see why Proquest’s new model will be unacceptable to libraries & users. Disappearing titles, content you don’t actually want, annual fee increases & if you can’t pay you lose everything. Libraries have purchasing power & should collectively reject this model.

At its heart, Star Trek is a utopian fantasy about a society so advanced that they are capable of holding productive meetings that last no longer than three minutes

A TNG scene. We're in the Enterprise conference room, where Picard is holding a meeting with Data, Troi, and Dr Crusher. Barclay is also there, for unknown reasons. Maybe he wandered into the meeting and just sat down, and everyone was too polite to mention it. That happened to me once. I was visiting an office location I didn't normally go to and I wasn't quite sure which conference room I was supposed to be in. I walked into one and sat down and it took me five minutes to realize I was in the wrong meeting. From the perspective of the people in that room, halfway through that meeting, a stranger walked in, sat next to the boss, took notes for five minutes, then walked out without saying a word.

I've not come across a starter pack focusing specifically on senior leaders with overall responsibility for university libraries (dean, director, head) so thought I'd start one. I'm sure I've missed plenty of people, so let me know to be added! go.bsky.app/7DgUMvf
