Many of us are gathering in Berlin next week for the Global Disability summit. But Germany's treatment of disabled people has a troublesome underside – it segregates hundreds of thousands. Talking with @raulkrauthausen.bsky.social I find out more: www.disabilitydebrief.org/debrief/choi...

I was genuinely honored to sit amongst these amazing disabled women last week on International Women's Day to talk about representation, intersectionality, and disability justice. #IWD2025 #AccelerateAction Thank you Sightsavers Ireland for hosting this event!
Six women sitting in a row, each of us have a mic. There is an ISL interpreter behind the speakers. There is a screen in the background with our names and photos. The speakers are me, Sineád Burke, Dr. Sineád Kane, Blezzing Dada and Paula Nolan. Maryam Madani is facilitating.

The landmark trial shocked and moved people in France and around the world. Gisèle Pelicot, the 71-year-old woman at the centre of the case, requested that it be open to the public. www.ft.com/content/d8e5...
Gisele Pelicot leaves the Avignon courthouse after hearing the defence's final plea at the trial of her former partner Dominique Pelicot accused of drugging her for nearly ten years and inviting strangers to rape her at their home in Mazan, a small town in the south of France, in Avignon, on December 16, 2024. A court in the French southern town of Avignon is trying Dominique Pelicot, a 71-year-old retiree, for repeatedly raping and enlisting dozens of strangers to rape his heavily sedated wife in her own bed over a decade. Fifty other men, aged between 26 and 74, are also on trial for alleged involvement, in a case that has horrified France. The court proceedings, which runs until December, are open to the public at the request of Dominique Pelicot's ex-wife and victim. Obviously no city is 100% perfect but Barcelona may be one of the most accessible cities I’ve been to! I was very impressed by the metro system + the small raised platforms for wheelchair-users to have level access to the door. Such a simple solution to a big problem. I wish Irish stations had this.

If this girl from Sierra Leone were white, Hollywood would make a movie about her, the sole survivor of her migrant boat. But she is (so far) anonymous, Black, and African, so the odds are extremely low that she or the 44 people who did not survive will have stories told about them or their heroism.

The lesson from the election should not be ignoring the threat of extremism because it's still widely unpopular but to continue to fight for unity in our communities to minimise it even further. Though, I'm not holding my breath for op-ed writers to see it that way.

Life got in the way of me finishing my thread on disability pledges in #GE24 manifestos but I just want to encourage anyone who has any interest in disability to vote left+transfer left.
