A very old but favourite #painting. "Four Courts, No Trees" was painted because I love Dublin's Four Courts. When you can see it. Felt a pang when it sold. Not the best photo of it because this was painted over 30 years ago when I freely roamed the city, but you get the idea. #SpéirGhorm #ArtYear
Landscape format in watery loose acrylics on mixed media paper. View across Dublin's River Liffey diagonally northeast to where the large dome-topped neoclassical building that is the Four Courts stands left of centre. It has a front-facing portico of Corinthian columns. On the triangular pediment above there are statues on the top central corner and each of the bottom corners. The wide dome is behind sitting on a wide cylindrical drum with columns and windows. Left and right of the portico are arched windows and more columns on the main central structure, with attached to either side is wall with arched openings and topped, like the central structure with a balustrade, as it screens off a courtyard to either side of the central structure. Both screening walls have a large central arch which are topped with carved sculptures. Columns, screen walls, and details are rendered in yellow with red being the colour of shadows and purple that of the sides of buildings facing into the courtyards. Touches of blue-grey are on the drum under the dome and parts of the tops of the central structure and the building to the right of the rights screening wall. The building to the left of the left screening wall is cropped out of picture. Distant buildings further away along the quay are suggestive strokes of yellow and orange. The river wall of magenta topped with a yellow balustrade runs in front of the Four Courts and the river reflects in a gently wobbly fashion the building above in slightly darker colours. An arched magenta bridge of 3 arches is down river with a loose suggestion of the distant skyline. Water that is not a reflection is rippling blue-grey with red highlights. The sky is a sunset pattern of scattered smokey pale blue grey clouds on top of yellow, orange and pink. Loose black outlines give shape to most forms. The curved magenta top of the near wall is in the bottom right corner. I took this photo before I signed the painting.

Something very striking about Bluesky is that there is an awful lot of sanctimony about rightwingers and racists, but horrific migrant crime stories are almost never mentioned. Here are two Afghan rapes reported just yesterday: www.dailymail.com/news/article... and www.gbnews.com/news/london-...

Separately from the politics and optics of this situation, it would be fascinating to tease out the principles concerning repentant ex-criminals entering public life. What is it about ex-fascists specifically, as opposed to e.g. ex-burglars, that permanently excludes them?

Another Dublin #painting for you. "Grand Canal Dock" was painted ten years ago because I like the shapes of the buildings, both new and old. I do want to revisit it as a subject though, to do it better justice - and to paint it much larger. #art #SpéirGhorm #ArtYear #scape
Landscape format in acrylics on mat board. Under a pure blue into pale turquoise sky, the gradient getting lighter the closer to the horizon, buildings on the long sides, both left and right, face in to a rectangular dock where the water is rendered in blotchy blue and turquoise horizontal strokes except where there are boats or where reflecting the buildings. On the right are old tall industrial buildings in dark reds and purple, with a green modern 7-story building of apartments closest to the edge and the viewer. On the left side are modern buildings 4 storys high with large sections in red, white, cream and pink. At far end of the dock are some boats moored before a humpback green bridge with buildings beyond including a green very tall modern tower to the left and white tower to the right. Some more boats are moored along the left side in the middle distance. Water when reflecting the buildings is almost glass like except for a few light horizontal ripples. "Inishmore Horse". A special #painting for me. As an unpaid carer I don't earn much but wanted to give back. So with permission I used a friend's photo as reference, and donated half of the proceeds to the charity of their choice - the Down Syndrome Centre in Dublin's northside. #ArtYear #SpeirGorm
Landscape format in acrylics on canvas. In the foreground a grey horse is standing facing the viewer over the top of a dry stone wall at the bottom of a small hill. The horse's right side is in dark shadow and its left side in bright sunlight. Behind it is a rough lumpy scraggy small field rendered in ochre, green and touches of muted red, which rises up to where sitting at the top is a traditional white thatched cottage, its gable end on the left a brilliant white, and its front in soft blue shadow. The right end of the cottage is obscured by the body of the horse. The right edge of the field has a thick row of bushes and at the top of the field to the left of the cottage are two isolated green bushes. There is a slightly worn track in the grass to the left of the horse up to the cottage. The sky, which occupies the top half of the painting, is a dramatic combination of a light painterly teal with a massive bold purple smokey cloud coming in from the left edge from the top to the bottom of the sky. Only the tops of the craggy grey stones along the top of the wall are visible along the bottom of the painting, and more so towards the right directly in front of the horse. Signed bottom left, Liam Daly
