We went scrub bashing with Locate Productions to mark the Autumn Equinox. It was tiring, sweaty, impactful work, carried out to restore and protect the biodiverse chalk grasslands of Malling Down. Thanks to Locate for the coffee, flapjacks and chat, and to Luke Spencer for capturing the event 📷

Often see this on juv Marsh Tits in autumn - hard blobs of material stuck to the bill. It's solidified pulp from sticky berries, where they've been extracting the seeds. Maybe honeysuckle, bramble, wild service, dogwood or hawthorn; hard to be sure which (or all!).

Conifer Mazegill (Gloeophyllum sepiarium) is described as "common worldwide" but this from near Coniston a few days ago is the first time I've noticed it. Love the colour scheme 😍 #FungiFriday
Several layers of bracket fungus growing out from the end of a cut conifer trunk, surrounded by heath vegetation including the brown remains of Heather flowers. The fungus brackets are a rich dark reddish-brown in the centre, gradually becoming lighter and brighter to orange and yellow at the edge.
