In the hot dry weather many are putting out shallow bowls of water in gardens to benefit wildlife. Could you do the same in your local churchyard in a shady place? Ponds are unsuitable for churchyards but a container with shallow edges or a ramp so small mammals can climb out can be helpful. #CFGA

What did I hear? Crickets Walking in a churchyard you might wonder where that idiom came from as the sound of crickets assails your ears! Producing one of the quintessential sounds of summer crickets are better able than more delicate insects to tolerate hot dry conditions #CFGA #natureinchurchyards

It's so hot and dry our grass has been cut early. Conservation Volunteer Manager Alex has scythed the meadow at our office already. Thee yellow rattle sowed last year has taken really and lady's bedstraw and birds foot trefoil have been very floriferous this year. #CFGA #meadows #scything

Love your Yew Week 9-14 Feb bit.ly/cfga-love-yo... We found this photograph by Andrew Fusek Peters of a thrush singing in a yew tree. Every part of the yew tree is poisonous, including the seed, but the pink-red fleshy berry "aril" is non-toxic and mildly sweet. #CFGA #yew #plantscience #ancientyew

Interesting-looking fungus growing from moss atop a tombstone in Doddington churchyard. I took it for dead leaf at first. ObsIdentify says it's Arrhenia spathulata. #KentNature #fungus #fungi @caringforgodsacre.bsky.social

Wildflower seed mix of mainly native British flowers & grasses inspired by country churchyards. Sowing best done in Autumn as yellow rattle, a semi-parasitic meadow annual which attaches itself to grasses through the root system needs to overwinter to germinate. #CFGA #wildflowerseeds #yellowrattle

Last call for cutting long grass! If you manage a small lawn or a meadow this is a reminder to cut long grass if you haven't already & remove arisings to reduce fertility and help next year's flowers. Any late flowering plants such as Devil's Bit Scabious, just leave that area to allow them to seed
