And controversially this applies to diagnoses of adhd and autism as well. People seeking diagnoses for autism and adhd have gone up almost 200% compared to depression and anxiety which were already high.

I couldn’t read the whole article but I’m extremely annoyed how people do not put front and centre that this is an effect of social media and algorithms. We’ve seen it happen with music all the time. These online communities spike interest in certain pieces based on word of mouth and fomo

People forget that J6 was successful. Everyone who participated was let out of jail and the guy who perpetrated it is President again. There were no consequences. They have plenty of incentive to do a much bigger and worse version.

Hegseth is an incredible example of “I refuse to learn!” I have no feelings regarding my reporting in mass shooting incidents. I’m not sure hiding the killers name will do anything. But we do have millennia of evidence that publicizing it further will not work lol.

I honestly find this fascinating. I’m not a fan of psychoanalysis, but these guys are such contemporary Freud cases. Like the premise nullifies the conclusion. There are two antithetical drives competing here: The desire for social recognition and the desire to withdraw from view.

I think if you want a demo of the mechanics of how AI doom-hype detracts from the climate push, listen to this Al Gore interview w/ @heatmap.news, where he dismisses the climate impacts (using a spurious comparison, imo) but treats the chatbot doom as serious and real heatmap.news/podcast/shif...

No. There is an infinite space between paid and forced which aren’t even poles. The ops point is that it’s clear that work itself vs recreation isn’t a one sided victory. “No one would clean sewers without being paid!” has no basis. There has never been a system to even understand the statement

All this seems to do is create a split in the audience. In the end it does sort of suck because from the economic side, the people that do appreciate the craft side of it will lose out as economies of scale fade.

Given the improvements, it’s definitely possible that most people even cinefiles won’t actually be able to tell. But does it even matter? People will just ask for provenance like we see with ai art and lit today. Are the ai companies going to fabricate a production trail?

nes cionomen @nescionomen.bsky.social · 30/09/2026
We’ve sort of already seen this problem with that nytimes ai lit test. I think it said only about 50% could tell the difference but it was hard because the writing was clearly chosen to resemble and trained on famous authors.

On top of fines and prosecution, make corrupt mfers toxic for businesses. You get busted for crooked fuckery and any business affiliated with you moving forward should become ineligible for tax benefits and govt. contracts

Ironically the claim “I heard it in a Welsh mall” supports the idea of why these songs have big numbers but have little reach. They’re on Spotify playlists playing on a near loop in businesses, but *people* aren’t listening to these playlists.

How do we actually measure these things? The reason this conversation is occurring is because you could reasonably get a yes from someone in Karachi if they listened to Michael Jackson back in the 80s. It’s dissonant because you’re getting mid-30s in North America not having a clue.

What’s the answer here? Are we really at the point where people are arguing to never seeing people in person again? I think I have to unfollow everyone who uses their name and/or profile picture on social media.

But like the article about YouTubers with audiences bigger than some blockbuster tv shows, it does force us to ask the question how these “hits” really work.

I think you’re right, but I’d put it at 2000. As soon as file-sharing and digital files became a thing, the rockstar era ended. My parents know Taylor Swift from football. People keep saying “you hear this in any public space”. The chain groceries near me play stuff from before 2000.

My guess is that she’s fully embraced the AI mimetic vs agentic discourse. She doesn’t want to be part of the “underclass” and this is an attempt to court moneyed Silicon Valley types that don’t imagine themselves as “just republicans”.

Given today’s news this is so funny. She clearly picked up the far right playbook so long ago. I expect this to be a play to get some sort of bari Weiss style treatment. Given that she’s followed a very similar route to Greenwald, I think this is pure cynicism coupled with addictions.

It’s breaking news, but I wish someone would do an investigative piece on this. It’s old hat, but it’s so clear that the former BCLib/SoCreds are taking marching orders from business leaders (Wilson etc.) It feels like a shadow government.

nes cionomen @nescionomen.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
Pedantry: the BCLibs won the most single party votes in 2017 but essentially lost the election because the Greens were never going to work with them. They changed their name before the 2020 election, but business backed Rustad and basically told Falcon to pack it in.

*To be clear, Harper is as bad as these guys given his post career work. But he’s closer to a striver like Vance which PP is as well than any sort of Trump figure. The analogy for me would be Harper=Vance pre-Trump. PP=Vance post-Trump.

But the barbaric hotline is part of what did him in. That was part of the Trudeau election. When he had his majority, he still blocked any discussion on abortion for example. But it became apparent at the end of his tenure that the soc cons were pushing much harder.

PP ran far more on social conservative culture war stuff than Harper ever did. He did moderate in the general, but he is closer to Trump than he is to Harper in style.

It’s a win-win. If CBS is destroyed, it’s another albeit expensive piece of the media landscape no longer in play. If she succeeds, it’s obviously beneficial to them.

Really the interview was bad. The interviewer let her get away unchallenged far too many times. If someone is just going to go off and be aggressive from the get go and dig into them. Don’t agree with them. Lorenz just looked like a crazed bully that she’s undoubtedly picked up from the far right.

What comes across is just a person so enthralled by their addiction that all means serve the ends. For example, she says the protecting children argument is total bullshit but repeatedly says that internet freedom saves children. Plenty of contradictions especially involving her “personal life”

nes cionomen @nescionomen.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Her argument about the surveillance issue is correct though. But it’s hilarious coming from her and her Covid arguments. She doesn’t want the government involved because that’s too much like China. She wants regulation to federate them because competition solves everything

nes cionomen @nescionomen.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
She quickly goes into how it’s a patriarchy/capitalism problem as if body image issues didn’t exist before capitalism. It’s the worse impulse of utopian left. “If we do this differently all these second order effects will happen!” No.

nes cionomen @nescionomen.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Cutting here is media bait, but her contention is absolutely ridiculous. Her whole argument rests on a technical distinction between addiction and maladaptive behaviours. It’s actually appalling. So anorexia isn’t a problem?
