People forget that J6 was successful. Everyone who participated was let out of jail and the guy who perpetrated it is President again. There were no consequences. They have plenty of incentive to do a much bigger and worse version.

Hegseth is an incredible example of “I refuse to learn!” I have no feelings regarding my reporting in mass shooting incidents. I’m not sure hiding the killers name will do anything. But we do have millennia of evidence that publicizing it further will not work lol.

I honestly find this fascinating. I’m not a fan of psychoanalysis, but these guys are such contemporary Freud cases. Like the premise nullifies the conclusion. There are two antithetical drives competing here: The desire for social recognition and the desire to withdraw from view.

I think if you want a demo of the mechanics of how AI doom-hype detracts from the climate push, listen to this Al Gore interview w/ @heatmap.news, where he dismisses the climate impacts (using a spurious comparison, imo) but treats the chatbot doom as serious and real heatmap.news/podcast/shif...

No. There is an infinite space between paid and forced which aren’t even poles. The ops point is that it’s clear that work itself vs recreation isn’t a one sided victory. “No one would clean sewers without being paid!” has no basis. There has never been a system to even understand the statement

We’ve sort of already seen this problem with that nytimes ai lit test. I think it said only about 50% could tell the difference but it was hard because the writing was clearly chosen to resemble and trained on famous authors.

On top of fines and prosecution, make corrupt mfers toxic for businesses. You get busted for crooked fuckery and any business affiliated with you moving forward should become ineligible for tax benefits and govt. contracts

How do we actually measure these things? The reason this conversation is occurring is because you could reasonably get a yes from someone in Karachi if they listened to Michael Jackson back in the 80s. It’s dissonant because you’re getting mid-30s in North America not having a clue.

What’s the answer here? Are we really at the point where people are arguing to never seeing people in person again? I think I have to unfollow everyone who uses their name and/or profile picture on social media.

Given today’s news this is so funny. She clearly picked up the far right playbook so long ago. I expect this to be a play to get some sort of bari Weiss style treatment. Given that she’s followed a very similar route to Greenwald, I think this is pure cynicism coupled with addictions.

It’s breaking news, but I wish someone would do an investigative piece on this. It’s old hat, but it’s so clear that the former BCLib/SoCreds are taking marching orders from business leaders (Wilson etc.) It feels like a shadow government.

It’s funny how quickly the AI boosters jumped from “everyone will make their own apps” to “everyone will make their own viruses that will destroy humanity”. Zitron was wrong. They haven’t collapsed. But most people are not making their own apps either. It’s Nate Silvers (derogatory) either way.

Getting older now and realizing that the people who believed it was “survival of the fittest” were the people that worked to make it that way. They weren’t bad people necessarily. I just thought self fulfilling prophecies were limited to the prophets. Whoops!

There was an entire crypto and nft marketing campaign based on this exact premise. So many people seem to have just memory holed it out of embarrassment. AI is evidently more useful. Zitron at this point is wrong about it all collapsing. AI is a problem right now. But so much is ridiculous.

Trump and Farage are so ridiculously corrupt that it’s actually scary to think that a principled fascist with an ounce of charm would cruise to victory. If Newsom doesn’t get the nomination, I think he’s been trying to set himself up for that sort of conservative turn.

I loathe all the people saying “that’s us!” Uh no. Pierre was on his way to a crushing victory right up to Trumps election and ensuing tariffs. That victory was based on his closeness to Trump. If those tariffs don’t happen then PP wins in a landslide.

At what point do you stop listening to a skeptic? I still think he’s right that some of these big AI companies will crater but that’s generally how the market works. It might be a case of the market staying irrational longer than he can. But, they seem to succeed and the tech is staying

Post from @hailey.at that says

“bsky isnt ready for this but, if you need a reason to not use words like "clanker" that isn't "well its kinda not a great thing to do" (it isn't) imagine this:

future model that has you in its training data, knows you posted that word online with joy, and denies your insurance claim as a result”4 panel comic

Panel 1:
Pink guy standing next to a toaster with a piece of very burnt toast. He says “Urgh, you useless fucking bolt box”

Transition that reads “12 Years Later”

Panel 2:
Pink Guy bursts into a hospital with his unconscious son in his arms. He yells: “somebody help me. My son is very sick”

Panel 3:
There is a shadowy doctor in the foreground. Pink Guy implores him “Doctor, please” the Doctor replies, “well well”

Panel 4: The Doctor reveals himself and oh my god is the toaster from the first panel who has now become sentient and got his doctorate. He sneers “wellll well well well well well”
