Anyways the CG Research Group at Ohio State University has the oldest distinctly-modeled tree I can find, dated to 1980. I'm willing to bet it's hand-made, looking at it. In 1984 they invented volumetric clouds and immediately used them for leaves, and by 1987 NYIT had procedural growing ivy.

I haven't read the spec script for The Works, their first idea of a feature film, but. I don't think I want to. If it came from some of the minds that outturned that mess, it makes me glad it never went beyond demo reels. It has more mystique & prestige that way.

Tonight's been looking at archives of various early CGI laboratories because I'm interested in the history of Plant Rendering. the NYIT is a fascinating lab for their feature film ambitions but uh.. just sat through the pitch reel for their second film idea, a Fantasy Beatles Jukebox musical. oof.

...although now that I look, even the model in that mansion has a different bevel/chamfer on the upper rim than the photo. Which I'm not sure would be easy for a casting. And the curvature of the lower rim, although that might be the depth of field distortion.

yeah, I'd forgotten/missed the creation of the original. My thought was that if there were a manufactured original there'd be more people online making pilgrimage to versions of it, but turns out when urinals are on their side they look a lot different. A mansion in St. Louis likely has them.

The versions that exist in modern museums are hand-made, anyways. The first recreation is particularly rough, which is also used to lend some credence that it wasn't Duchamp that made it but rather a woman he was friends with. The original can be matched to a real model, but the modern ones can't.

Just opened Half Life Blue Shift because it was one of the only first person shooters I have installed and I want to run atound and explode things. For seemingly no reason it started playing the Star Wars theme as like. A music track in the intro. Like full resolution. What.

If you look at the various versions of Fountain, you can notice distinct differences, easiest to spot is the number & placement of drain holes; implying that the sculpture is not an off the shelf urinal but a hand-made sculpture in the shape of one.

Beat Ocarina of Time for the first time :> Good game. Good ganon fight except the first part is kinda bullshit. Not a fan of how Zelda keeps making Girl Noises when you get hit in the final phase for no reason. Jumping straight into Majora's Mask is like night & day though.
