Watching a couple of Cormorants on the groyne at Cromer this morning and then noticed another one flying in over the sea. It decided that it would land between the other Cormorants and then they all stood happily together.

Red-throated Diver seen at Sheringham yesterday. The red throat is still showing quite well but will gradually fade and disappear during the winter months. This one dived, hunting for food and reappeared again 20metres away.

Another bird seen at Sheringham yesterday, juvenile Artic Skua. It's a pirate in that it steals food from other birds, which it did whilst I was watching it. It chased a gull until it lost the food item it was carrying, then dropped down to the sea to collect its prize.

Mute Swans on the lake at Felbrigg NT. The trees around the lake are starting to take on a real autumnal feel and despite sunny days, dawn and dusk now have a distinct chill in the air.

From sunrise, spent the morning seawatching as part of the NENBC Coordinated Seawatch, counting the number of bird species (17) seen in three hours & direction of travel for speed checks along coast. Lots of Gannets, maybe already en route to African coastal waters for winter.

What was meant to be a quiet day of walking around West Penwith soon turned into quite the day of birding! Utterly incredible views of the Upland Sandpiper were bookended by two equally tame buntings - Lapland at Pendeen and Snow Bunting (self-found) above Cot. All photos taken with phone+bins!

The usual Wednesday trip with Mum down to the front at Sheringham to watch the turnstones for a while, mainly in front of 'The Crown'. It was a bit breezy and I counted at least 30 turnstones, possibly as high as 34. More details in captions. @bridgetjanejones.bsky.social @nenbc.bsky.social
A sole turnstone, its' coat turning from summer to winter, stands on a rock that forms part of the groyne in front of 'The Crown' pub in Sheringham, as spray is thrown up from a breaking wave behind. 16/09/26.Three turnstones stand on the seawall at Sheringham in bright late morning sunshine as waves break against wooden groynes in the background.Eleven turnstones stand on top of the seawall at Sheringham this morning, 16/09/26. Most are in sunshine apart from one at the far left which is in shade from the wall behind. The twelfth turnstone at the far right is captured in flight. When Mum and me arrived, there was only one turnstone on the wall, I had brought some mealworms with me and on putting some out, a few more turnstones arrived. A little while later around 20 or so flew in from further east.

Woodpigeon making sure no one is looking before it takes a bath in the garden pond. You can always tell when they have been bathing as there is a grey-milky scum on the surface of the water. It is harmless and soon breaks down.

Brilliant day at Cley started with a pied flycatcher at Walsey Hills. We then found a red-backed shrike, which annoyingly flew off immediately. A flock of 8 curlew sandpipers dropped in to join 6 on the ground. We also had 16 little stints, 4 greenshanks, a knot, sanderling, turnstone and whinchat.
