Several Cat's-ear flowering in the garden and spotted this cobweb in amongst the Brambles in the headgerow. Honesty found on the roadside verge together with a large clump of White Dead-nettle, many of them in flower.

From sunrise, spent the morning seawatching as part of the NENBC Coordinated Seawatch, counting the number of bird species (17) seen in three hours & direction of travel for speed checks along coast. Lots of Gannets, maybe already en route to African coastal waters for winter.

Mute Swans on the lake at Felbrigg NT. The trees around the lake are starting to take on a real autumnal feel and despite sunny days, dawn and dusk now have a distinct chill in the air.

September’s garden bugs. These are not to scale - lacewing larvae are, thankfully, tiny, but still terrifying if you’re an aphid. 🐡 #invertebrates

Quite a warm day for October and it brought a few butterflies out including this Common Blue and Small Copper. They chased each other for several minutes, with brief rests before settling some distance apart.

Moon looked bright first thing so a good day for a 13km walk along back lanes & paths to carry out beck water quality monitoring. The banks of the chalk stream were overgrown on our visit last month but they are now cut back, even hosting a female Roe Deer, & clear water flowed.

Turned a log over and found a very shiny Woodland Dor Beetle and close by Willow Emerald Damselfly which had just settled on nearby vegetation. Common Darter dropped onto the path but then flew off again and the Acorns are starting to fall.

Migrant Hawker, a little difficult to see clearly against the dried up blackberries.

Another bird seen at Sheringham yesterday, juvenile Artic Skua. It's a pirate in that it steals food from other birds, which it did whilst I was watching it. It chased a gull until it lost the food item it was carrying, then dropped down to the sea to collect its prize.

Red-throated Diver seen at Sheringham yesterday. The red throat is still showing quite well but will gradually fade and disappear during the winter months. This one dived, hunting for food and reappeared again 20metres away.

Views of Cromer Pier during a walk along the beach. The sea was unusually calm, with good visibility out to sea.

Watching a couple of Cormorants on the groyne at Cromer this morning and then noticed another one flying in over the sea. It decided that it would land between the other Cormorants and then they all stood happily together.

Lots of Common Toadflax growing along the roadside verge; these few were on top of a bank. Several Speckled Wood butterflies were seen today. A pair of Gadwall seen at Felbrigg today. The female seemed quite happy to be photographed, while the male was hiding behind the reeds.

Darter sitting on ripening blackberries from a few weeks ago, which is when a juvenile Moorhen started to visit the garden pond - it is still doing so. Red Campion just starting to flower but the White Campion is already flowering.

Buzzard sitting in the middle of a potato field, not seemingly worried about 30 or so Black-headed Gulls feeding nearby. Cranesbill still in flower adding colour to the browns of autumn.

Blue Tit clinging to the bark of an Oak tree. Taking a picture of thistles when I noticed the bug just below the flower. Think it is a Stictopleurus species belonging to the scentless plant bug family.

Another bird sitting on a fence post, this time a Carrion Crow. Few flowers about on the roadside verge so pleased to find this White Campion. Spear Thistle definitely looking just a little autumnal. Occasional showers have been a bit of a theme today.

Willow Emerald Damselfly seen locally but nearly missed it. Magpie, just sitting on the fence (post). Shoveler and a pair of Gadwall seen on the lake at Felbrigg NT a few days ago.

Yellow Warbler found last year near the golf course in Death Valley. Absolutely love the colour of this bird and despite its colour it is remarkably difficult to locate in a shrub.

Ivy has started to flower and attracted four Red Admiral butterflies as well as lots of bees and hoverflies. Red Kite on its daily circuit hunting for food.

Robin in full song whist perched on an Oak tree. Wild Carrot photographed in early morning light. Dock Bug occupying the same leaf as a Hairy Shieldbug. There were over fifty Hairy Shield Bugs spread over the branches of a nearby shrub.

Early morning seawatch at Cromer today. Stiff breeze with spots of rain. Several species of birds seen including - Gannet, Scoter, Sandwich Tern, Artic Skua, Red-throated Diver, Teal and the local Peregrine put on an impressive show but was chased off by a Herring Gull.

Lots of rain today so a few pictures from a dry day. Four Mint Moth in the garden a couple of days ago. Moorhen on the lake at Felbrigg NT and shiny Rose Hip berries in the hedgerow. A plant with a small delicate blue flower - Skullcap, it likes damp places and I like the name.

Parasol fungi, the only one in the meadow but highlighted by the early morning light. Rabbit staying very still and thinking it is hidden by the long grass but bolted when it realised it could be seen. Grey Heron in warm morning light and a Hairy Shieldbug sitting on a leaf.

A ladybird on the Sage plant. When I took the picture, I didn’t notice the spider dangling in front of it. You can see its shadow on the leaf in front of the ladybird. Sheep in the early morning light, carrying a passenger in the shape of a Magpie.

Wall butterfly in the garden, not recorded this species before so a bit excited, it lived up to its name and landed on a wall. Peacock butterfly also came to rest on the same wall.

An early morning walk to watch the sun just begin to peek over the horizon, before the golden orb slowly glows above it. Dappled sunlight filters through the woodland, while the trees surrounding the lake take on the rich, warm colours of autumn.

Not many butterflies about today, and given that it was cool and damp, that’s not really surprising. But this Peacock Butterfly certainly brightened the day.

Green Woodpecker in the garden yesterday evening. It was busy searching for ants’ nests while keeping a watchful eye out for predators, as there are both a male and female Sparrowhawk about.
