Thing about recycling is that, barring a very few materials, it is a sustainable practice. Plastic can’t be recycled more than a couple times before it becomes unusable, and therefore still ending up in the environment, and most materials require as much inputs to recycle, or more

Right-wing support was increasingly framed in terms of anticommunism rather than overt white supremacy by the mid-1980s. Reagan used that framework when he vetoed sanctions against South Africa in 1986; the House overrode the veto with plenty of Republican votes.

The "ritualistic liberal" of Britain or America thinks of the policy of South Africa's Nationalist government as "racialist." But at heart, the policy of "apartheid," or "separate development," is not concerned with dogmas about innate racial superiority and inferiority. The real question is prudential: how to govern tolerably a society composed of several races, among which only a minority is civilized. So far as the doctrine of "one man, one vote" is workable at all, it can be applied only to a society in which the great mass of men share one culture, are reasonably literate, enjoy comparative economie equality, and are separated by no profound distinctions. Such is America; but such is not South Africa.
