The main character was essentially the latest in a series of experiments to genetically engineer the perfect perpetual energy machine, so the Big Bad... Ya know... Wouldn't have to depend on bribing authorities in the adoption/foster system to give them first refusal of potential new candidates.

The story followed this kid who was unknowingly a science experiment gone wrong by some big evil organisation who had worked out how to generate power after some nigh-apocalyptic event by hooking up children to machines almost Matrix-style and essentially feeding off the power of their dreams.

All this led to me feeling super angsty and doing the thing any respectable former emo/metalhead teen of the mid-2010s would do, and listening to Black Veil Brides. It reminded me of this story I came up with back then that was kind of inspired by both Wretch and Divine and MCR's Danger Days.

I feel like all the people my age or older IRL that I wish I could spend time with probably look down on me and think I'm sheltered because I still live with family. Honestly though, it's more that I doubt I'd be able to cope managing a home independently yet, and this economy sucks anyway.

As if those aren't things I can choose not to do and still be a legal adult. Sex, drinking, and driving (though not all at once) aren't prerequisites for BEING an adult, they're just things you can legally do after so many trips around the sun. So I feel very out of place generationally.

Life is weird sometimes. I'm way too old to be a teenager, but I feel like people who spent most of their 20s (even if they're still IN their 20s) going to nightclubs, hooking up, and driving cars would probably look at me - someone who has done none of those things - as if I still WAS a teenager.

Why did I transition, right answers only? Partly my PMOS diagnosis in my midteens, partly the prior complete emotional breakdown following my early departure from high school where I felt like my options were 'Reinvent myself, or lay down and die'.
