As I said on @wabe.org yesterday, this administration's voucher scheme would hurt rural communities like the one I grew up in. Public education should be the great equalizer—and vouchers are the exact opposite. Listen to my full conversation with Rose Scott.

At a time when educators, students, and families are calling for more resources to strengthen neighborhood public schools—where 90% of students go—the Trump administration is advancing a voucher plan to divert taxpayer dollars to subsidize private education for a select few.

Every student deserves to go to school knowing they are safe, valued, and protected. For educators, this is fundamental. We should strengthen Title IX—not weaken it. The Department of Education's move to undermine those protections endangers our students, who need them more than ever.

This is a well-deserved win for families and educators. NEA was a plaintiff in this case. By speaking out, we made clear that we will not tolerate the Trump administration flouting the law when it withholds congressionally appropriated funds.

What an honor to join @dianeravitch.bsky.social at the Network for Public Education last week. As we discussed, the movement against our public schools is strong—but it is not in my nature to despair. We will keep fighting to open doors to opportunity just as the teachers who inspired me did.
