Helpful new paper: “Regenerative agriculture should not be viewed as universally beneficial. Rather, its environmental performance depends on the balance between changes in productivity, production emissions, and land-use consequences across interconnected food systems…”

If I had the opportunity to quite my job and dedicate my life to advocating for public action to eradicate ticks, I would do so in a heartbeat We're losing the outdoors to a disease spreading menace. I know I avoided many nature jaunts out of fear of a lifechanging infection.

While I believe how universities serve their students must change with the times (and alternative option for education and training should receive investment), the idea of a general education still serves a critical function and should not be abandoned.

College graduation requirements have become increasingly specialized around ones major in recent decades. However, this has not assuaged calls to fully abandon the idea of a core cirruculum in English, culture, history, the sciences experienced by all students.

The only diversity provision in the national organic standards are that farmers rotate annually. Organic does not mean diversified. What a field actually looks like, and the consequences of a food's method of production, cannot be easily known from its label.

I'm weirdly prescriptive about the term 'dog days of summer' To me, they're after the festivals of mid July (BBQs, fairs), on the third heatwave of the season, you're warm to the bone It calls to mind a lab napping under the shade of a tree after a long day of action and awaiting evenings chill

We overestimate the benefits of highly adopted actions like recycling & underestimate highly beneficial ones like plant-based. The latter would be even higher ranked if CO2 drawdown on land used by animal ag was incld. New study 2,924 US adults testing 34 climate actions: doi.org/10.1038/s418...
Fig. 1: Adoption of climate actions by their climate change mitigation potential. Average adoption rates and objective emission mitigation potentials in kilograms CO2e per capita and year of 34 individual-level climate actions aggregated across the three US samples included in the present research (n = 2,924; Supplementary Table 2). The data illustrate the negative relationship between the adoption of climate actions and their mitigation potential (r = −0.51, 95% CI [−0.72; −0.21], t(32) = −3.37, P = 0.002, one-sample t-test, two-sided, against r = 0). Only short labels of the climate actions are shown; see Supplementary Table 2 for full descriptions. EV, electric vehicle.
