Ace Combat games are never usually that deep for me, I think people like to overthink them and end up inventing a version of it that never existed. Regardless, AC8 is a war game that feels quite appropriate for the time period it is released in. How nationalism fuels militarism that fuels war.

The notion that Arab states need more statist nationalism as promoted by a bunch of commentators is misguided. There's not disagreement about who belong, but who is sovereign. Palestinians are excluded of course, but none of the other communities are. It's about which group determines the trajectory

Given the talent represented in the lineup, my expectations for this album were very high. Pleased to report that my expectations have been utterly obliterated! In the apparent pursuit of melodeath excellence, Wraithstorm holds nothing back. Revenant represents a prime melodeath experience: stomping aggression, expressive and dynamic songwriting, triumphant solos, and a more-is-more approach to maximizing the riffs-to-runtime ratio. HIGHLY recommended. Required 2026 listening, in my opinion!

A magnificent example of melodic death metal done right. Everyone involved brought their A-game for this one and it shows. Absolute highest recommendation. Buy it. Twice if you can.

A steamroller of aggression and melody. Urgent and dynamic, wrapped up in massive, crystal clear, punchy production. Fantastic songwriting by Alicia and Lux. All four members of the band are at the tops of their games. Also, lovers of prominent bass will be in heaven, as Leona's thoughtful and melodic bass is beautifully on display throughout. This is the most I've enjoyed melodic death metal in more years than I can remember.
