it's spooky month so here's one of my favorite cult horror movies: 'Upír z Feratu' ('Ferat Vampire'), a 1982 Czech film about a vampiric(?) Skoda rally car

my favorite little detail in Control: Resonant so far is that it makes it pretty clear the Oldest House is a direct nod to this place

I like the Discourse Song fine but I'll still take "it's pretty obscure, you probably haven't heard of it" over "it's everywhere, how have you not heard it?!" as animating sentiments go

Vibe cleanse time, so I made Steely Dan in Lego form. (+ Michael McDonald and Jay Graydon being tortured during the recording of "Peg.")

I made a Lego recreation of the cover of Aja, along with a studio sound board for Donald and Walter to be really high behind. On the other side, Michael McDonald is recording backing vocals for Peg and Jay Graydon is preparing for a zest guitar solo. You're welcome and yes I am incredible thank you.

Working on the penultimate chapter of my book where these guys come up (largely re: their version of Martin Denny's "Firecracker" as an act of cultural re-appropriation), and these guys should be in any pop music hall of fame worth its status just by having first crack at the TR-808

no spoilers but a certain PG movie I saw this weekend hit me with a needledrop double-whammy of "wait, THIS song from THESE guys?" and "how are they going to deal with its rampant profanity"

A while back, someone made a claim that ZZ Top was the closest that America ever got to motorik in a classic 70s sense, that eternal drive down the freeway. I have no problem in equating Frank Beard with Klaus Dinger in that regard.

i do want to throw out there that if you feel weird about today's kids knowing music from fifty years before they were born merely because you grew up experiencing the iron curtain of rock & roll: it's better and healthier for people to know the past, and if you wanted to you could too

if the goal is to get people upset at your choice I don't have too many candidates, but I really did not click with 'The Host' or 'Snowpiercer' to the extent that I am still kind of surprised I didn't hate 'Parasite'
